Croatia Airlines stands by Dash 8 aircraft
Croatia Airlines says its fleet of six Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft are safe and they will remain an essential part of the carrier’s fleet. It comes after one of its aircraft landed without its nose gear in Zurich on Friday night. “A total of 600 aircraft of this type fly around the world for various renowned airlines and no one has claimed the aircraft is less safe than others or has more mechanical problems”, Zlatko Širac, member of the Managing Board and Chief Operating Officer at Croatia Airlines says. The Croatian carrier is due to pay off the aircraft in 2018.
On Saturday afternoon another Croatia Airlines Dash 8 aircraft travelling to Rome from Dubrovnik landed in Split after an emergency light indicated problems with one of its engines. After the aircraft was inspected and cleared in Split it continued its journey with all seventy passengers onboard to the Italian capital, with a delay of several hours. Croatia Airlines’ spokesperson, Davor Janušić, says the incident cannot be related to the one which occurred on Friday evening in Switzerland. Croatia Airlines has seen a total of sixteen incidents on the Dash 8 in connection to their landing near, though none have been serious. According to sources within the airline, most landing gear related problems on their Dash 8s included gear blockage though these have usually lasted only a few seconds.
Meanwhile, the crew of Croatia Airlines flight OU464 from Zagreb to Zurich, headed by captain Zvonko Šitum and co-pilot Ivan Ivanković, have received a heroes’ welcome back home for their professionalism and handling of the emergency. Mr. Šitum says the Dash aircraft are safe and passengers have no need to worry, “There have been minor incidents but it happens to every aircraft and airline around the world”. He added that at no point was there panic inside the passenger cabin or on the flight deck during the emergency landing and that crew followed regular procedure in such events.
Regarding the Rome incident, the plane was flying from Dubrovnik TO Rome (not from Rome) and turned around and flew to Split. After 3 hours, it took off again and headed to Rome. My father was on this flight.

Nobody has dared to mention any doubt about the quality of maintenance. Where does it get performed: in Zagreb or elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteThe Croatian press keeps on "hero pilots" - what is OK and on technically problematic airplane - what is very questionable.
if you go to google earth, look at Zagreb airport, just east of current terminal you'll see 2-3 large white hangers, they belong to Croatian Airlines, this is where all of OUs aircraft are serviced, Germanwings, Lufthansa and Austrian also sometimes have their aircraft serviced there.

So skills of Croatian Airlines mechanics isn't even the question, they're all certified and trained by Bombardier Croatia which has its office in Zagreb, problem is that aircraft have issues with landing gears and engines, something that has been said many times by many airlines, even SAS withdrew the aircraft from its service after spat of accidents on internal flights.
Croatian Airlines bought or leased/bought the aircraft in hope it'll be an economic and profitable aircraft for the fleet, but has proved to be all but.
Although there are many operators who use the aircraft. Aircraft type has experienced many issues and so far manufacturer is not doing anything to remedy the issue.
Question is, does someone needs to die before these cunts start to move off their corporate butts?

ReplyDeleteQuality of maintenance is on very high standard in OU, this summer 8 pilots from Croatia were boroughed to Air Berlin and they were shocked how poor the Dash 8 are maintaned in Air Berlin. So maintanance is not a question.

Ovako, letila sam tim avionom, Zagreb - Zuerich sa Airbusom A320 a po povratku Zuerich Zagreb sa DASHOM. Oba dva leta bila su Croatia Airlines kompanija. Medjutim, odmah da vam kazem, kad smo letili sa Dashom (Bombardier firma) umrla sam od straha, jer... vec u samom startu nestalo je nekoliko puta struje u zrakoplovu na samoj pisti zbog toga sto su bili nekakvi problemi sa motorom. Nakon uspjesnog paljenja poletili smo za Zagreb. Za vrijeme leta stjuardese i stjuard odradili su izvanredan posao, medjutim za vrijeme leta obavijesteni smo o "turbulenciji" medjutim po izrazu lica samog STJUARDA koji se sjeo i skamenjen sjedio jedan dio leta, primjetili smo da nam ocito nesto taje. Nakon toga smo sletili u Zagreb te u Zagrebu proveli hrpu vremena vise od 30 minuta u avionu cekajuci da nas napokon puste van. Eto, izrazito neugodno iskustvo. Zato sam rekla, nikad vise Croatia Airlines. Nije problem u Zrakoplovu nego u tome sto nase HRVATSKE tehnicke sluzbe kvarove rijesavaju RESETIRANJEM a ne onako kako bi trebalo!Neznam sto nam se taji ali nikad vise. Radje cu rezervirati putem neke druge kompanije gdje vise paznje obracaju na tehnicku ispravnost nego samo uzmi novce za kartu fuckas servise... KATASTROFA

Ja barem jednom godisnje letim Croatia'- om. Osoblje odlicno, DASH ...cudan. Na letu iz Ciriha za Dubrovnik prosle godine imali smo aborted take off kada smo vec dobro rulali po pisti - navodno alarm se upalio da su vrata prtljaznika otvorena,,,neprijatan osjecaj

Things like this happen EVERY DAY, from kings like Lufthansa;Qatar;etc. to small ones like B&H or Montenegro...
It's like you say "I will never drive a car again, how could've I stopped in the middle of the road"... Pure statistics, nothing else.
If for something, Croatia Airlines is famous for it's maintenance, Croatia Airlines Technical Services. Ask Lufthansa, 10 years of C Check co-op, and in a month D Check is starting.

OT, In first 8 moths of 2013, Zagreb had 622 000 Foreign Visitors no number for total domestic visitors but in August alone there were 10400 of them and in 2012 175 000 domestic visitors stayed in Zagreb.
ReplyDeleteit is expected 175 000 Domestic and 700 000 foreign visitors will visit Zagreb in 2013 and generate 1.42 million nights, Still short of 1990 and 1987 record when 1.02 million foreign visitors visited Zagreb, but this number is expected to be reached in 2015.
In 2012 Croatia was visited by 11.84 million visitors, 1.35 million where domestic and 10.49 million foreign visitors. So far in first 8 months of 2013 Croatia was visited by 9.131.000 foreign visitors and 980 000 domestic, generating around 60 million nights.
This is an increase of 5.5% on 2012 figure, Foreign tourist were responsible for generating 6% and Domestic 3.9% increase in arrivals.
Croatian tourism is expected to generate an revenue of €7.25 billion, number of tourist who visited Croatia in 2013 is expected to reach 12.4 million arrivals and 65.0 million nights. In 1989 Croatian record 68.7 million nights should be broken in 2014 when number of visitors is expected to increase due to the fact that EU and Croatia will be out of the recession.
Croatia hopes to double Tourism revenue by 2020 to €14.5/15 billion and number of foreign tourist is set to double, although conservative figure is set at 17.5 million actual number could be much greater due to the fact that places such as Zagreb, Split are becoming year round city destinations and weekend brake destinations for many Scandinavians, Benelux and UK travelers.
Zagreb is expected to hit 1.7 million foreign visitors by 2020, generating around 3.2 million nights and €1.5 billion in revenue. Split is hoping for more modest numbers of 1.2 million visitors, 2.5 million nights and revenue of around €1.2 billion by 2020.
Yes Zagreb is more popular city brake destination than Split cause most travelers actually do not stay in City of Split but continue on to other destinations in Dalmatia, something Split city authorities hope to change soon, currently City of Split has barely 20 hotels.
