Sell off in Slovenia’s aviation sector begins

Adria Airways’ maintenance division, Adria Airways Tehnika, has been put up for sale as part of the government’s push to bring in foreign investment into Slovenia’s aviation sector. Adria sold its 100% stake in Adria Tehnika to Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport and financial holding company PDP, both of which are state owned, in 2010. The European Commission is investigating the sale of Adria Tehnika to the two companies as the transaction may have gone against European Union competition laws since all parties involved are owned and financed by the Slovenian government. The privatisation brief warns, “Potential investors have to be aware of the European Commission’s probe of PDP's and Ljubljana Airport’s compliance with the Community Guidelines on state aid for rescuing and restructuring firms in difficulty. Slovenia’s position is that the 2010 measure to recapitalise Adria Airways, as well as the buyout of Adria Airways Tehnika, are not imputable to the Republic of Slovenia and do not constitute unlawful aid”.

Adria Tehnika is not only the base maintenance provider for the Slovenian national carrier but also to SAS Scandinavian, Wizz Air, Air Méditerranée, Afriqiyah Airways, Germanwings, Air India, Austrian and several others. The company is the maintenance facility for the Bombardier CRJ100/200/700/900 aircraft and works in partnership with Air France Industries on maintenance and service checks on the A320 family of aircraft. It is Europe’s leading third party maintenance provider for CRJ100/200/700/900 jets. Tehnika’s facilities consist of the main hangar, stretching over 1.700 square meters, two new hangars, both 2.300 square metres, and workshops covering an area of 700 square metres. Under the original takeover deal with Ljubljana Airport, Tehnika’s facilities remained in ownership of Adria Airways, however, they too were sold to the airport last year.

The CEO of Ljubljana Airport, Zmago Skobir, believes the privatisation of Adria Tehnika will be completed by the spring of this year. Late last week, the Slovenian government invited all interested parties to submit their offers for a 100% takeover of the maintenance company. The government plans to sell both Ljubljana Airport and Adria Airways this year. Ljubljana Airport’s privatisation process is expected to be completed by this summer while no exact timeframe has been given on Adria’s sale.

The entire European Commission ordeal is one big mess. Who is going to buy a compant with that sort of baggage?

Agreed. Buying a small airline with a potential liability of 80m € is not going to happen.

Would it not be better if they sold Adria, tehnika and the airport as one big deal or would that be against EU laws as well

    OT

Here is a picture of YU-AND without a livery. It seems that the plane has been reincarnated. I wonder if it will eventually receive the new livery... It will fly to London Heathrow today.

Picture taken from Belgrade airport fan page.

I guess that makes their fleet:

      8 B737-300
      4 A319
      4 Atr-72

So 16 aircraft, is that right?

I do not see what's the problem with posting similar posts about Air Serbia, especially since it increased its fleet by another aircraft. Obviously not many people care about this topic since there are so few comments.

To tell you the truth Tehnika is worth much more than Adria. If they did not separate them and sold them off as one package it is likely that there would be more buyers especially someone like China Southern. The fact that the government broke up the entire company (even the flight school is being sold separately) is grade A stupidity

yep, it seems so, Tehnika from looks of it is quite a decent outfit, looks really professional and quite capable, with client list of who is who.

Adria shouldn't have sold Adria Tehnika, really bad move on their part.

Selling Tehnika was one of desperate moves to keep Adria above waterline, otherwise the whole group would declare bankrupcy. Also year ago Tehnika was close to bankrupcy after one of the biggest customer Spanair went bankrupt.

But still Air Serbia does not have obligation to take care of their passengers in case of vis major, even as EU regulation obligated so!

Please EU give a hope that passengers of Air Serbia will have at least minimal civilization standards!

I counted 37 JU flights from BEG today, but I only counted 36 for last Sunday. Did I make a mistake, or was another flight added?

    1. Anonymous10:46

Well, they did add another aircraft into the fleet so maybe they had more flexibility to fix their schedule and add frequencies. Also, they flew to Sochi if I am not mistaken, maybe that's the extra flight?

I was very clear a few days ago. You can post aviation related offtopics if there is no article published 24 hours ago related to, in this case, Air Serbia. Since there was, there is no point in hijacking another topic. This is not a chat forum where you can post whatever anywhere. There are certain rules. Since I explained all of this to you two days ago, I don't know if you are finding it difficult to understand or you are just ignoring the rules. If you need me to clarify this very simple rule to you for a third time I am more than happy to do so.
