Vueling adding new flights to Zagreb this summer
Spanish low cost airline Vueling will launch seasonal flights from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Zagreb this summer season. Services will be inaugurated on Thursday, June 29, and will operate twice per week until September 14. As a result, Vueling will be the first airline to tap into the much discussed and underserved Rome - Zagreb market which currently has no direct flights. Etihad Regional’s earlier decision to drop the planned route will give Vueling an extra boost as it faces no direct competition. The Spanish no frills airline has already put tickets on sale on its website. The flights will complement its existing seasonal service from Barcelona to the Croatian capital which commences on May 2. Further flight details for the Rome - Zagreb flights can be found here.
The 2014 summer season is shaping up to be a busy one for Zagreb Airport. In exactly two months, KLM Cityhopper will launch its new flights from Amsterdam while Air Croatia will inaugurate a one weekly service from Gothenburg on June 14. Germanwings will inaugurate flights from Hamburg, while Trade Air will launch its new domestic commuter service. In addition, Korean Air will resume its summer charters from Seoul to Zagreb. Alitalia has previously said it too plans to launch services to the Croatian capital but is yet to schedule its future flights. ČSA Czech Airlines is also said to be close to launching flights from Prague. The new arrivals are in line with the management’s goal to boost passenger numbers at Zagreb Airport by 8% this year.
Vueling will likely target the leisure market between Italy and Croatia on its new summer service. In 2013, a million Italians visited Croatia, making them the third most populous tourists in the country behind only Germans and Slovenians. Vueling has been present on the Croatian market for several years. Besides the abovementioned flights, this summer the airline will also operate services from Rome and Barcelona to both Dubrovnik and Split as well.

ReplyDeleteWell I hope that the Croatian Government even though the Ceo Mr.Kucko is his friend see finally that he is not capable to manage a airline as Croatia Airlines since he is Ceo OU is getting smaller and other airlines are beginning to fly on Zagreb their home base .Normally in other EU countries this Ceo will have his days counted so I would say it's countdown Mr.Kucko
ReplyDeleteExYU in list of new routes from Zagreb you forget Germanwings Zagreb-Hamburg route, and you forget Trade air new Zagreb-Rijeka-Split-Dubrovnik route. As price of ZAG-RJK-SPU-DBV flight is just 387 kn (51,6 EUR) that is much cheaper than Croatia airlines direct flight and lot of passengers buy those tickets instead of Croatia airlines one.

DeleteOf course it is not. First, it is PSO, so country is paing for that. You can not loose on that route. Second, it is so cheap that people start to use it instead of Croatia Airlines direct route.

I don't understand what you are getting at. All new routes have been listed and even reported in separate articles (every single one - you can click the Zagreb tag to see all the articles). If you do dislike the blog, you are more than welcome to leave.

BEG airport is one of the things that can slow down Air Serbia. Past 12 months did not bring any major news about airport expansion or renewal. A gates, Terminal 1, parking areas, cargo and many other areas are in a real need for change. It looks like BEG airport did not get new owner or part owner, and even if that happens soon they will have hard time catching up with major growth. Summer of 2014 will test some limits, and summer of 2015 will be a real problem as T1 cannot be replaced by then.

ReplyDeleteAlthough the growth potential may look modest when compared to the rest of Ex Yu (especially BEG), I am happy because I personally believe that a sustainable growth is better in a long run.
Ex Yu Aviation did a good job listing the most important of new routes, but here's a more descriptive overview:
KLM - 7 x weekly to Amsterdam (100 seater)
Vueling - 2 x weekly to Rome (150 seater, A319)
Germanwings - 2 weekly to Hamburg (75 seater, CRJ)
Air Croatia - 16 rotations to Gothenborg (140 seater)
Trade Air - 7 x weekly to Osijek/Rijeka (30 seater)
Add-Ons:
Turkish Airlines - 7 x more flights compared to 2013
El Al Israel - 1 x more weekly flight
Vueling - starts the season 1 month earlier
An arrival of Czech Airlines on a route to Prague would be an amazing news too...
We may hope for OU to make a modest growth (1 to 2%) based on additional 12 seats on their A320s and better LF.
If all this actually materializes, I believe ZAG may grow up to 10% this year.
2015 is much more of an important year for ZAG.
Zagreb should record growth in 2014, doesn't matter if it's 1% or 10%, not so sure about next year, OU is in deep trouble, who knows if they'll even exist in 2015!

I don't think you can. The charters are organised by the tourist organisation in Seoul and is only available for South Korean tourists I think. A good alternative could be Qatar :)

DeleteWe all can see how he is running Croatia Airlines like his own personal fiefdom, hopefully USKOK comes knocking on this doors soon.
From what I understand there are some stuff going and USKOK is looking at things, but we won't know much until USKOK has sufficient proof to charge Mr Kucko with charges that can stick. USKOK is one of the best things in Croatia right now, they're doing their job rather well, could be better, but so far so good, they've put behind bars so many corrupt politicians and "businessman" in past 3 years we'll need to build another prison next to Remetinec just to hold them all in. lol
And most USKOK personal are young, educated and well versed in Croatian laws. No old kumnajara in USKOK, most are in their 20s, with some in mid 30s and few in 40s. Important if you we wont to eliminate corruption, for most agents weren't exposed to political machinations and manipulation by political power.
They should check Mr.Kucko past in Zurich and Amsterdam when was working there.I think they will be surprised what they will find out. My advice would be contact his staff there
