Winter season changes for EX-YU airlines and airports

The 2014/15 winter season begins today and will run until March 28 next year, signalling changes for both the national carriers of the former Yugoslavia, as well as airports across the region.

Adria Airways will operate a total of 144 scheduled weekly flights: 127 of them from Ljubljana, nine from Pristina to Munich and Frankfurt, four from Munich to Lodz in Poland and two from Tirana to Frankfurt. Services from Ljubljana to Prague and Warsaw, launched during the summer, will be maintained over the winter months as well. The Slovenian national carrier will also operate charter flights from Ljubljana to Hurghada and Sharm-el-Sheikh in Egypt, with other charters available during the school holidays, as well as the Christmas and New Year period. Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport will offer 150 flights to nineteen European destinations this winter. All foreign carriers operating to Ljubljana will maintain the same number of flights as last winter season.

Air Serbia will temporarily take over Etihad Airways’ service between Belgrade and Abu Dhabi, with its equipment operating the route twice per day. Additional frequencies will be added on flights to Amsterdam, Podgorica and Prague when compared to last winter season. All new destinations launched during the summer, with exception to Varna, will be maintained over with winter months. Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport will see Germanwings and Etihad Regional suspend their flights from Stuttgart and Geneva from today. On the other hand, Air Cairo begins scheduled winter flights from Hurghada to the Serbian capital, to be operated once per week. TAP Portugal will consolidate its flights from Lisbon to the Serbian capital, with additional frequencies and some services operating via Budapest. Vueling Airlines will run several flights from Barcelona during the holiday period.

B&H Airlines will operate a total of fifteen weekly flights from Sarajevo. The airline will add an additional flight to Belgrade when compared to last winter while the rest of its network remains unchanged. It has been suggested the carrier could launch flights to Skopje via Podgorica in the coming months. Meanwhile, Sarajevo Airport will see the arrival of Flydubai from December 8. Services will operate twice per week. Montenegro Airlines will maintain a similar schedule to that of last winter with additional flights to Belgrade from both Podgorica and Tivat. The airline has said it is close to securing rights to launch flights to Copenhagen via Zagreb. Podgorica Airport will see Ryanair maintain two weekly flights from London Stansted, while its service from Charleroi turns seasonal. Turkish Airlines will operate daily flights from Istanbul.

Croatia Airlines will be offering more flights than last winter, with additional departures from Zagreb to Brussels, Dubrovnik, Paris, Sarajevo and Split. The rest of its network remains unchanged. The airline will maintain sixteen weekly flights from Split to Frankfurt, Munich and Rome, with two weekly flights to be offered from Dubrovnik to the Italian capital. Zagreb Airport will celebrate Eurlot’s inaugural flight from Warsaw today. The Polish airline will operate daily services to the Croatian capital. In addition, Flydubai will launch three weekly flights from the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, connecting Zagreb with Dubai for the first time. Spain’s Vueling will offer four flights from Barcelona to Zagreb, on December 21, 27 and January 3 and 5.

Skopje Airport will see similar operations as last winter. Wizz Air is set to dominate with five weekly flights to Malmo and Basel, four flights to London Luton, three weekly flights to Gothenburg, Eindhoven and Memmingen and two flights each to Bergamo, Beauvais, Charleroi, Hahn and Treviso. Flydubai will maintain two weekly services to the Macedonian capital this winter. Low cost Pegasus will operate three flights per week from Istanbul, while its rival Turkish Airlines will run two daily services. Alitalia, which launched flights from Rome to Skopje during the summer, will maintain the service with six weekly flights. Pristina Airport is not expecting new arrivals this winter with Adria Airways to reduce one weekly flight to Frankfurt. Etihad Regional, which launched flights from Zurich over the summer, will maintain services to Pristina, although, tickets are still available for purchase only through local travel agents.

Interesting about Air Cairo. I see tickets can be bought on their website.

Also welcome Eurolot to Zagreb. Hope it will be a busy winter for airline/airports

I for one am happy that Air Serbia is operating the second daily flight to Abu Dhabi. Given that both airlines had good loads on the route, I am sure it will further boost Air Serbia's performance.
Also, Air Serbia has far more seats on its A319 so it makes it easier to operate the route.

It seems the A319 will be replacing ATRs on some routes. For example A319 will be flying to Sarajevo several days a week.

By the way, both airlines had an average loadfactor of 90% during August on the route.

Yes but the bookings to Sarajevo have been really good so the A319 is justified. I guess they have consolidated their presence in Sarajevo.

By the way, is that the shortest flight in ex-YU? The B737-300 flies the route in just 18 minutes!

I don't think anyone from OPS would agree exploiting big a/c on short routes is justified. Why else would manufacturers produce regional airliners? Makes prefect sense just like DC-10 from BEG 2 TIV by the end of 90's.

Why doesn't OU operate a few weekly flights this winter from Dubrovnik and Split to Belgrade? They could code-share and cooperate! Dubrovnik did try to get Air Serbia to fly there in winter time... shame they turned them down.

Maybe there is not enough demand during winter. Air Serbia will be getting a couple of ATRs next summer. I assume Zagreb will be the next regional destination. As for Croatia Airlines I think they will add some new routes next summer too with that restructuring thing over. We will see.

Kucko will be no more come 2015, there are plans to replace him with someone else before privatization goes ahead, Zoran Milanovic Croatian PM has suspicions as to qualities of Kucko and his clique, USKOK might be looking at OU's operations as we speak, few members of OU that were protesting in 2012 have come forward with some reveling facts about operations at OU, interesting times ahead, USKOK is looking at allegations of improprieties including theft of OU funds to finance lavish lifestyle of few executives at OU.

Kucko might be one of them, if proven than he's facing 10 years behind bars in Remetinec, joining his pal Milan Bandic and Ivo Sanader.

Anyone knows if Air Serbia plans on adding more aircraft?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous10:54

I am sure they will do something as they don't have more airplanes to operate charter flights during the summer. And with this fleet they only can introduce maybe 4 new destinations and fly there somewhere between 11:00PM and 01:00AM. They should order about 10 planes which could take about 100 pax, maybe E190, because they will have to return 2 of ATR aircrafts on 2017. I really don't know what they are going to do, but I hope they'll order at least 10 more aircraft, they can't do much with 10 A320neo.

Another novelty is that one of the two A320s will be flying to London every day, 10.20 departure.

It's rather bad utilisation given that it doesn't go anywhere from the evening when it comes back from Zurich just before 23.00.

Ex Yu went back to the good ol' banner... nice.

Zar nemaju piloti u ASL oko 500.000 din. platu?

      Hvala vam ljudi... :)

Cekanje izmedju dva leta u Beogradu takodje ulazi u radno vreme.

51% government owned, salaries must not be secret, maybe for particular non-managerial persons, but general pay grades and managers' salaries should be public.

Well I can't understand why is there so many people who are saying that there's no chances for BEG to find concessor. Why couldn't he find it? I mean there is ASL whose hub is there, and ASL is pretty successful in it's 1st year, I think it could make a large progress in next few years.
