Adria Airways eyes 20% growth in 2015

Adria posts improved 2014 results and anticipates strong 2015

Adria Airways estimates its passenger numbers will grow 20% this year and will be accompanied by a 15% rise in revenues as it prepares to open a new base in Lodz, station an aircraft in Pristina and launch new routes from Ljubljana and Tirana. The Slovenian carrier welcomed 1.112.857 passengers on board its aircraft in 2014, an increase of 8.4% compared to the year before. Adria achieved the result despite a fall in the number of operated flights from 19.509 in 2013 to 19.123 last year. The carrier recorded significant passenger growth on flights to and from its Pristina base, with some 180.000 travellers carried, up 20%. The airline is now the second busiest in the city, behind only Germania.

Adria has posted encouraging results for the start of the year, with 65.667 passengers handled during January, an increase of 6% compared to the same month last year. It has also recorded a modest increase in the number of operated flights, up 2%. Aiding the growth during the first month of the year was the airline’s base in Pristina and a considerable number of charter flights operated from the city. Adria’s CEO, Mark Anžur, says, “Increasing passenger numbers is one of the development focuses contained in our business strategy until 2020. To ensure that as many passengers as possible select Adria as their airline of choice, we are adjusting our prices to suit the broadest possible range of customers, as we endeavour to satisfy both business travellers and those who are looking for the cheapest fares”. The airline has not released its financial results for 2014, however, Mr. Anžur says the carrier is expected to break even.

This summer, Adria will launch new flights from Ljubljana to both Stockholm and Berlin and introduce new services from Tirana to Brussels and Paris. The Slovenian carrier has also confirmed it will maintain seasonal summer flights from Ljubljana to London and Manchester, which will run from May 16 and May 30 respectively. Furthermore, the airline will launch six weekly flights from Lodz to Amsterdam, complementing its existing service to Munich. It has leased a former Lufthansa CityLine Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft, which it will base in Poland's third largest city, and has begun recruitment procedures for Polish crew members. Furthermore, the airline has concluded a lease agreement for an Airbus A320, which it will operate from April through to October, mainly on charters from Ljubljana. In addition, Adria will station an aircraft in Pristina and use one of its aging Bombardier CRJ200 jets for ad-hoc charters. Despite initial plans to introduce flights from Munich to Bratislava this summer, the route has now been put on hold until further notice.

    I still think that Adria should fly also to Riga which is huge hub in Baltics. I am sure that with codeshare with airBaltic this would be busy route.

      JP's A319 has been serving PRN-MUC and-FRA routes together with charters to STR, DUS and BSL as well as the TIA-FRA route. I guess these routes (plus MMX) get upgauged to A320.

      However, last summer I flew CR900 to MUC and love the aircraft. Perhaps they really are picking up pax that previously flew with Belle Air Europe.

    Anyone have any analysis of what we could expect IF Adria is purchased by Qatar? I'm not saying it will, I'm just wondering. Reading Purger's recent analysis of what Croatia Airlines could expect if purchased by certain companies, I'm wondering if someone could do a similar analysis for Adria. Cheers!

      No time for doing that, there isn't much to write anyway since the deal won't probably happen. The only thing i see is Adria opening a line 4x per week to Doha or feeding some of its nearby hub daily, while becoming a match of Etihad Regional, we can see with what fate.

      The main goal should be to establish a clear long-term strategy that would ensure complementarity and that airports would not overlap each other, for example:

      - BEG: Air Serbia hub, legacy carriers, cargo center
      - NIS: Low-cost airport
      - UZC: Primarily touristic airport that should catter to the resorts in of Tara and Zlatibor in South-western Serbia, that should go in parallel with an international campaign to make that beautiful region of Serbia known to the worldwide tourists (which also fits into ASL's agenda)
      - KVO: WTF?
      That's the first reaction you'd have but in my opinion, Kraljevo is the best alternative for the Serbia's Kutaisi (exclusive LCC airport), a much better option than INI and that could at the same time replace Uzice due to its superb central position, while not being far from neither Nis or Belgrade (removing the need to develop Batajnica as a low-cost airport on long-term).

      Further than that, from now-on the Airports of Serbia should be closely integrated with Serbian railways with a possibility of AoS buying a share in the later. The developments must be closely coordinated in order to ensure the development of both the air and adjacent rail-traffic since two are often interdependent (efficient rail transport to the airports or cities near to them, Belgrade airport railway station etc.). All that would require minimum investments due to existing railway lines (both in Nis and Belgrade) but maximum coordination and strategy.

      Optional and depending on other developments:

      - BJY: Belgrade region low-cost airport
      - BNX to be included as part ownership
      - TIV, TGD: Acquisition to be set as a condition in an eventual takeover of YM by JU

      Etihad clearly sees the latest pre-condition is crucial to any investment in the airline.

    How is it possible that Qatar haven't received the licence yet? What would be Directorate's explanation now? Qatar is unsafe, what? I hope this will get solved since Vučić had talks with Qatari politicians and he wouldn't like to confront, especially since Sebian embassy is due to be opened soon.

    Also the rest of the article is quite depressing.

      What QR needs the permission for is not to fly but to sell tickets between SOF and BEG (so called fifth freedom rights).

      Considering the fact that JU flies there, I'd be surprised they allow it.

      INN-NS I know you a legend and all but in Serbia there are 4 ways to get a job and I would be glad to introduce them to you: 1) Give the "boss" a certain amount of money as Serbs say "mito". 2) Be in a political party that is currently ruling 3) Have a "veza" or somebody who can make a deal for you with the boss 4) Go for drinks with the boss to a hotel ( you know what I mean by drinks I hope lol)

      There so much nepotism in Air Serbia. For regular people it is complitely imposible to get job over there. The company is even proud of it by saying that they hired huge amount of new people. FOR HOW MANY OF THOSE JOB POSITIONS THERE WAS A CALL FOR APPLICANTS?
