| Passenger numbers improve as financial losses widen at Croatia Airlines |
Croatia Airlines has posted mixed quarterly results, with passenger numbers improving and losses widening. The carrier handled 302.053 passengers during the first three months of the year, an increase of 3% compared to the same period in 2014. As a result, the airline positioned itself as the second busiest national carrier in the former Yugoslavia. A total of 82.123 passengers travelled on domestic flights, down 1%, while 215.345 travellers were welcomed on board international services, an improvement of 6%. The remaining 4.585 passengers flew on charter flights, down 26% year-on-year. However, charters accounted for only 2% of overall traffic. The average cabin load factor stood at 61.1%, which is 1.1% higher than last year.
Overall, Croatia Airlines saw its passenger numbers improve on flights to and from France (+57.4%), the Netherlands (+29.4%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (+13.9%), the United Kingdom (+13.1%), Switzerland (+7%) and Belgium (+3%). On the other hand, the carrier recorded poorer results on services to and from Austria (-13.2%), Macedonia (-5%) and Germany (-3.7%). Passenger numbers on other markets increased a total of 5.3%. Ticket sales were up 5%, with the greatest increase recorded in North America (+21%) and Europe (+11%, excluding Croatia). The greatest decline in sales was registered in Australia and New Zealand (-49%) and Croatia (-12%). During the first three months, the airline operated 5.079 flights, down 2% on the same period last year.

On the financial front, the Croatian carrier’s consolidated net loss widened 17% to 12.6 million euros, up on last year’s 10.8 million euro loss. Unlike its counterparts in Serbia and Slovenia, Croatia Airlines provides quarterly profit figures. The airline says its financial performance is usually poorer in the first half of the year due to the strong seasonality of the Croatian market. The carrier increased expenditure by 2%, while revenue fell 6% on last year. It spent most on flight operations, passenger services and promotions and sales. At the end of the first quarter, Croatia Airlines had 890 employees and twelve aircraft. Due to both planned and unscheduled maintenance of its aircraft, the airline has been forced to conclude short-term leases of additional jets over the past few weeks including Montenegro Airlines’ Embraer E195, Trade Air’s Fokker 100 and Moldavian Airlines’ F100.

DeleteThe announced changes came as a proposal for the W15 timetable. They are still being negotiated. Some spineless, clueless people *cough*nikitovic*cough* want to accept everything regardless of certain parts being totally retarded.

DeleteThe W15 'proposal' is not a 'proposal' and as usual JU have not finalised the W15 schedule. Nothing official has come from JU, all is talk, rumour and speculation. All has been seen and done season after season, year after year.

Scheduling is done in AUH, not in BEG.
Looking at the numbers, Adria has really good Q1 performance. Less than 100,000 passengers than OU.

Ot: I read some comments here few days ago that Air Serbia A319 YU-APJ is not flying because it is getting WiFi equipment installed and that it takes longer for this first installation. I don't know if APJ is in BEG, AUH or somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteAPJ is offline since Apr 13 and that means three working weeks. My car mechanic would install WiFi in less time, and he has an IQ of a room temperature. Jat Tehnika already installed it before, it was on a 737 for Transaero, but it didn't take that long. WiFi has been installed before in AUH.
Something smells funny here, but it does not look like wifi installation. Either APJ had some other issue, or it's really parked aside for some reason.

Wifi installation isnt a quick progress. It is not as quick as say seat installation which for a B737/A319 can be as quick as 2 hours. It is also a new system for JU and i am sure testing is being done as well. YU-APJ as I wrote below will be the first to feature wifi, YU-API has gone into the hangar for installation. All wifi installation will be in BEG by Jat Tehnika.

DeleteOT, flipping through May edition of Air Serbia's Elevate magazine. Great coverage of Montenegro and fantastic example of modern Balkan cuisine on pages 46-49. But then I saw truly creepy ads for two Belgrade restaurants on pages 75 and 81. I can understand if those ads are accepted for "Caveman Monthly" magazine but they have no place in Elevate. In a broader sense, it also highlights (most of) Belgrade chefs lack of innovation and sensibility to transform traditional Balkan cuisine into a 21st century menu.
ReplyDeleteYeah you are right. Neither ad was done very well. The first one is cluttered and the writing doesn't really make sense to me, and also the font looks bad. The second one has a much better layout but showing raw meat isn't common in the West, so I don't know how it will appeal to Westerners.
DeleteClutter is part of the kitschy appeal at L&K, if you've ever been there, but that's not the problem. Blonde's tail is morphing into some sort of raw meat and that image does not whet my appetite. More like a poster for a horror movie franchise.
DeleteAnd the one for OMB @ Radisson does not do a thing for appetite, Westerner or a not, it’s a raw meat. I saw new Raddison but havent' eaten at the restaurant yet, and food on their site looks much better. But that ad is not even appropriate for a Korean BBQ restaurant if you know what I mean.
Despite the financial figures presented in the article, it seems likely that Croatia Airlines will record net profit for the second consecutive year in line. But these short-term leasing deals should end soon. By the way, Air Serbia finished the first quarter with average cabin load factor slightly less than 58%, i.e. by 3% worse than Croatia did.

ReplyDeleteEach of the 3 above mentioned airlines has some advantages, compared with the others : JP has foreign bases&markets and long tradition in charters, OU has domestic flights, multiple airports, coast& tourism, while JU has new management, strong EY as investor, and transit passengers. All countries are successors to ex-Yugoslavia, and were 3 most developed republics within it. So, it would be logical that country population corresponds with the number of passangers carried, in ratio. So, if Slovenia has roughly speaking 2 million inhabitants, and JP 200.000 pax transported in Q1, than Croatia with its 4 million inhabitants should have 400.000 pax transported by OU, and Serbia with its 8 million people some 800.000 pax moved in Q1 15. And now just a question for ASL fan boys, especially INN-NS : ko je ovde lider u regionu?

Someone asked about JU loads for AUH. I flew JU801 a few days ago AUH-BEG and the load was 1 J / 80 Y. Business was booked 5 pax but in the end was only 1 pax checked in. Pax was mixed mainly transit. A couple O&D, many Serbian diaspora from Australia. There was transit pax continuing ex BEG for OTP, SJJ, CPH, ARN, LJU and WAW
