Busy summer ahead for Skopje Airport

Skopje Alexander the Great Airport estimates its passenger numbers will continue to grow as Wizz Air prepares to introduce five new routes from the city in just over a week and Croatia Airlines launches seasonal summer flights from Split. Macedonia’s two international airports, Skopje and Ohrid, handled 506.271 passengers during the first five months of the year, up 17% on the same period in 2014. In a statement to EX-YU Aviation News, the airport’s operator, TAV, says it is pleased with the airport’s performance so far this year, with further growth expected in the months to come. “We are satisfied with the current growth in passenger traffic and we believe that it will continue to increase through the whole year, as well”.

During the first five months of 2015, Skopje Airport welcomed 490.651 passengers, an improvement of 17.2% on last year. In May alone the airport handled 117.099 travellers, up 7.4%. “The air business is highly dynamic and is constantly changing. The growth in passenger traffic depends on different factors - external factors, such as the price of the oil, GDP growth, and others. We can say that our work is dedicated to concrete targets - attracting new airlines and providing the best service, which is fast, secure and comfortable, to our customers”, TAV Macedonia told EX-YU Aviation News.

A total of fourteen airlines are maintaining scheduled services to Skopje and Ohrid this summer season, with Swiss International Air Lines recently launching flights to the Macedonian capital. Furthermore, another ten carriers will operate summer charters, including Corendon Airlines from Antalya and Nesma Airlines from Hurghada in Egypt. Wizz Air, which is already the busiest carrier in Macedonia, will launch flights from Skopje to Friedrischshafen, Sandefjord, Barcelona, Lubeck and Nuremberg, starting June 29. In addition, the no frills carrier will inaugurate services from Basel to Ohrid, which will complement its existing service from London Luton Airport to the city. “After the achievement of handling over one million passengers at Skopje Airport in 2014, which was a major milestone for us in less than five years since we started operating the airport, this year we have even higher expectations for the development of air traffic in Macedonia”, Zoran Krstevski, the General Manager of TAV Macedonia, says. In 2014, Skopje Airport added almost 224.000 passengers and recorded growth of in excess of 22%. It is expected to replicate this success in 2015.

Good news. If they do set up a national airline at some point they will have strong growth in 2016 as well. But I would love to see some new airlines at Skopje. Over the past few years I think only Alitalia, Swiss and Fly Dubai were new carriers.

OT : AirSERBIA stats for May :
    215.800 passengers (+17% yoy),
    1.360 departures (+10%)
The best performing routes in terms of LF were :
    Paris 86%
    Amsterdam 85%
    Zurich 83%
    Sarajevo and Rome over 80%.
Warsaw and Budapest were the worst routes, as usual.
LF to Abu Dhabi was as mere as 47,5%.

Thank you for that. I guess Paris improved because the route was downgauged while Rome was reduced to daily flights.

I am still annoyed because SJJ is closed at night. It would be such a good candidate for a night flight.

If actual A330 can't be ready for Monday (esp if interior has to be reconfigured), they can still reveal it to the public.

Remember Aug 1, 2013? Air Serbia presented new logo, rendered picture of future plane and this Airbus model, but actual plane was revealed at a later date. This could as well happen on Monday in Milan but with A330: presentation, rendering of the A332 in Air Serbia livery and airplane model.

Ste izvalili kako beg.aero ne prikazuje više od 3 codeshare letova u dolascima/odlascima? Carrier code plus maksimalno 3 codeshare-a i to je to. Ne znam zasto.

Not sure if Wizz could start Moscow flights since there would be too much bureaucracy involved as Wizz is neither Macedonian or Russian but it would be great

    From Air Serbia's FB page:

Dear Air Serbia team, How does it come that you have submitted an incorrect passenger list to German authorities for flight JU344 from Belgrade to Stuttgart yesterday (19 June 2015)? At passport control another passenger and I were asked by police to follow them into their office where our ID cards and boarding passes were copied as part of the fine proceedings which have now been initiated against Air Serbia. In any case it was more than embarassing to be taken to the police office under the watchful eyes of all the other passengers instead of being allowed to pass. The police officer also mentioned that this was not the first time you are going to be fined for submitting incorrect passenger lists. ‪#‎PaxEx‬ was terrible indeed. Any suggestions how to make up for this humiliation? Kind regards, Christian von der Ropp'

Stupid Americans, it's because of their paranoia that some destinations require the APIS.

Guys why don't you use the forum instead of spamming every non-Serbian topic with comments about Air Serbia (and its the same ones day in day out)

There are only 6-7 comments about SKP today. You can add more if you want but reality is that SKP does not create a lot of comments.

yeah and you have created 60 comments about a fantasy how Air Serbia is getting A330s, Embraers and what not and all of that they decided to announce in Milan where there will be no accredited Serbian press.

So what, anybody is welcome to comment on any topic they like. I would not care if there are 40 comments about Zagreb airport on say Air Serbia news day. Actually I would love if there was more comments from Croatian, Slovenian and other users. Anyways just skip the comments you dont like or are not interested in.

It is normal to dream about something that's not real yet. People dream about winning football world cup, no hate there, just a wish. Ex Yu reported about plans to create national airline in Macedonia. Until it becomes a reality it is someone's dream, that's the definition of the dream: if it's not a reality it is a ________

That's all fine and well. But dreaming every single day for three days and convincing people like it's going to happen is over the top. You could have continued the discussion on yesterday's topic but then again you can't because the discussion is exactly the same. What's the point of repeating it every single day.
