Brač Airport begins runway extension

Brač Airport has embarked on a six million euro extension of its 1.440-metre runway. The island airport aims to handle larger aircraft by adding a further 320 metres to the runway. Work is scheduled to last throughout the summer. Opened in 1993, Brač Airport is Croatia's youngest commercial airport but has struggled to maintain year-long flights. In 2015, it handled 8.809 passengers. It currently caters for aircraft up to 100 seats and hopes to handle Fokkers, Airbus A319s and new Bombardier C-series jets once the lengthening of the runway is completed.

    Would make sense to enlarge at least for 737-800 or A320
    Or topographically not possible?

      Yup, that's what they are doing. Some LCC already expressed their interest, there were some serious interest from one particular.

    Make it 400 longer. I love the airport but even with general aviation it was challenging, now in a320 it would be scary.

      Check some greek airports where A320 B757 lands - it is a difficult landing but is possible.

      As much as I'd love BWK to get much more traffic I think that - as said earlier in an OT on here they are not having a sufficient number of hotels that can justify the airport receiving larger birds than 3 or 4 76-seater planes (Q8-400) per week.
