PHOTOS: Air Serbia launches Ohrid service

NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia has resumed flights between Belgrade and Ohrid following a three year hiatus. The Serbian carrier introduced the three weekly service this afternoon, with the Macedonian Ambassador to Serbia, Vera Jovanovska Tipko, attending the launch ceremony in Belgrade. She was joined by her Serbian counterpart, Dušanka Divjak Tomić, in Ohrid, along with the General Manager of airport operator TAV Macedonia, Zoran Krstevski, and the Mayor of Ohrid, Nikola Bakračeski.

With some forty passengers on board the inaugural flight, the Airbus A319 was welcomed by a water cannon salute at St. Paul the Apostle Airport. Air Serbia will run the service with an ATR 72 turboprop on a seasonal summer basis until September 13. The carrier's CEO, Dane Kondić, said, "Ohrid is a fantastic addition to our flight network and a popular drawcard for holidaymakers with its scenic lake and water sports, fishing and boating trips. We know air travellers are looking forward to our Ohrid service. Tourism is fundamental to our growth as an airline and we will continue to evaluate opportunities to establish air services to summer hotspots". TAV Macedonia General Manager, Zoran Krstevski noted, "We are delighted that, following a three-year hiatus, Air Serbia has resumed flights between Belgrade and Ohrid, initially during the summer season three times per week - each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This service will be of interest to Serbian tourists, as well as our citizens living in the United States and other overseas nations thanks to the new route from Belgrade to New York, allowing for quick connections to their homeland".

Well, if you call 60% a decent load. Dont get me wrong, I would be more than happy for this route to be sustainable (even to become year round), but if judge by the first flights... They are not doing very well.

Hopefully loads will improve - but it is ususally quite common for the first few flights to have worse than average LF.
