Air Serbia has seen solid passenger numbers on its transatlantic flights since the launch of its New York service on June 23. According to the President of Air Serbia's Supervisory Board, Siniša Mali, the carrier handled 17.410 passengers on the Belgrade - New York - Belgrade route by the start of this week, exactly two months since the launch. The average cabin load factor stood at 79.1%. "The results are satisfactory and I hope this successful trend will continue in the future", Mr Mali said yesterday. Air Serbia maintains five weekly flights to New York with its 254-seat Airbus A330-200 aircraft, featuring eighteen seats in business class and the remaining 236 in economy.

79% LF during the peak while dumping fares?

    Solid.

Well its an "okay"-start. However with those low prices I fear they did not even earn anything during summer but must have most likely made a loss.

They said they won't make a profit by 2019 on that route.

Everyone had low fares this summer. In a sense, it shows that the TATL market is competitive. Fuel prices were low (which was good point for JU to enter) but that meant that carriers could offer lower fares to compete with others, and they did. So while I agree that the prices were overall low and they probably did not make a killing, they were not dumping-level prices, just in line with market (for a nonstop flight: the bottom rock price is almost always some one-stop e.g. with LOT).

It is clear the route will be loss making for years - that goes without saying.

But wouldn't you expect that at least in high season they would make a gain for let's say around 3 months a year? In the second year that non-loss making period should be 5 months, then 7 months in the third year and so on...

The results are more than satisfactory!! With such a competitive market for TATL flights and having in mind that many people bought tickets before these flights were announced, the results are above expectations!

It is not good result for winter. In summer if should be much more than 90%.

So in summer we have bad winter LF and winter prices. And business class is empty. So yield is very bad.

Not good job! They urgently have to change something if they want that route to survive.

The route has only just started and it's been said countless times that they'll keep it up for at least a couple of years even at a loss. So quit your thinly veiled schadenfreude.

You haters used to introduce a new nonsense every week. Now you've been stuck with the tax nonsense for months and all you do is watering this blog with crocodile tears over Serbian taxpayers who really do not need your sympathies nor they would like to be used as a weapon in your political mission. You should really try and find something new to express your endless hate that consumes you every day over and over again.

79% after two months into a very competitive market, I would call that a huge success, especially with all the drama involving permit.

It usually would be a great result! But JU started with high season! So it is not too good. If you consider the massive and long lasting dumping (absolutely not every airline in the market offered less than 800 EUR return in Eco in high season) it is quite a bad result to be fairly objective and honest.

Considering that the service wasn't really confirmed until most of the vfr market had already booked their flights in earlybird sales these figures even with the lower fares are actually quite good! Well done JU and looking forward to a stronger 2017 summer!

Mr. Mali should be busier running the City of Belgrade rather than Air Serbia.
