NEWS FLASH

Sarajevo Airport saw its busiest year in 2016, during which it handled 838.966 passengers, an increase of 8.5% compared to 2015. It is the first time the airport has managed to surpass the 800.000 passenger mark. During the last month of the year, Sarajevo Airport welcomed 44.181 travellers through its doors, up 56.7% on December 2015, however, such large growth was primarily achieved due to the fact the airport was closed for most of December 2015 as a result of poor weather. Sarajevo Airport anticipates seeing a turning point in its operations in 2017 with plans to handle one million passengers, overhaul its runway and expand its terminal building. Talks are underway with several carriers over the introduction of new flights to the city. So far, TUIfly Belgium (Charleroi) and Wizz Air (Budapest) have announced new services to the Bosnian capital this year.
