Adria Airways will increase frequencies on a number of destinations out of its main hub in Ljubljana during the upcoming summer season, which begins on Sunday, March 26. Despite plans to launch services to Tehran and Ukraine, these have been omitted from Adria's preliminary summer network. The Slovenian carrier will introduce an additional weekly flight from Ljubljana to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Moscow and Paris, as well as an extra two weekly service to Sarajevo, Skopje and Warsaw. At this point, Adria has no plans to expand its bases outside of Slovenia, with services from Pristina, Tirana and Lodz to see minor reductions over the summer when compared to last year. Furthermore, the airline will not be resuming any of its flights from Olsztyn and Rzeszow in Poland.

Facing stiff competition, the Slovenian carrier will suspend its two weekly seasonal summer service from Ljubljana to London Gatwick. Late last year, easyJet introduced the same service, complementing its route from London Stansted. Furthermore, Wizz Air plans to boost capacity between London Luton and Ljubljana with the introduction of a 230-seat Airbus A321 aircraft from September 17. Despite commencing flights to Berlin last summer and plans for the route to be operated on a seasonal summer basis, the German capital has been removed from the airline's route network. Furthermore, Adria will not be resuming flights from Pristina to London Luton, which were introduced last June. On the other hand, Wizz Air will start its own service between the two cities next month.

The 2017 summer season runs until October 28. Please note that the changes listed below are preliminary and based on current availability in the Global Distribution System (GDS). Furthermore, the table below displays the peak weekly frequency on each route during the course of the summer season. EX-YU Aviation News will bring you summer season changes for each national carrier from the former Yugoslavia over the coming weeks.

Shame they gave up on London from both LJU and PRN without putting up a fight against Easy/Wizz.

It would have been a futile fight. Better focus you resources elsewhere. Wizz and easy are just too strong.

Even though they gave up on London they seem to be competing well against LOT to Warsaw and they are increasing frequencies to Amsterdam despite Transavia launching flights next month.

Why are you so god damn expensive to fly with from ZRH? All I want is to visit LJU but i'm not going to pay more than 300 CHF for a ZRH-LJU when ZRH-BEG is only 190 CHF.

Same goes for Croatia and ZAG....

They are the only airlines flying those routes so they probably inflated the prices whereas from BEG you have more choice plus the option of Wizz to Switzerland as well.

Well, since they face no competition they maybe rather sell at higher fares and maybe having volumes anyway even without lower end leisure passengers on the route. So if that is the case, absolutely no need to lower the fares.

You can see that JP is back to building a base in LJU and these are some great news. Seems like they were a bit lost and confused over the last several years.

I am surprised they are not going back to Berlin. I thought this would be a solid market for them especially with the feed they could get from SJJ, SKP, TIA...

What's there to discuss? The management didn't extend the current agreement, the pilots reject theirs, therefore a strike is coming up. That way, the incompetent management will have an escape goat should things go sour in Adria. You know, the pilots screwed up everything and we were doing so great.

If they want to establish themselves as a transfer airline between Balkans and Eastern Europe to Western Europe then they have to fly more than 3pw to place like Podgorica. They seem to be on the right track with Sarajevo.

Why is Theran not on the list? As far as the route network is concerned, it's utterly disappointing. The new management adopted the same strategy that was in use until Anzur took over, LJU hub with ACMI operation. We saw what happened to the finances, why should it be any different now?!

It doesn't necessarily have to hurt Adria. London is a special case because you have another 2 airlines competing on the same route and you were serving it only seasonally anyway. But look at Brussels. It's doing more than fine for Adria and they compete against Wizz.

On BRU route, Adria takes leftovers, plus it's not exactly comparable with LGW or STN, since Easy is now flying to LGW as was Adria last year. Wizz on the other hand is flying to CRL not BRU.

By the time they stabilise their finances, it'll be too late. Transavia is coming in April, Ryanair is apparently in talks with LJU, that only leaves out Norwegian. Against the LCCs, Adria stands no chance.

I still don't understand 4k's strategy in respects to Adria. Will they try to turnaround the company and then sell them or are they in it for the long haul.

So more good news for Skopje! Nice to see they are increasing frequencies despite the SKP being Wizz land.

They threaten with s strike every year around this time but always manage to make a deal. I think it will be the same this year too. They threatened with a strike last year.

Average number of daily pax at ZAG in the 2nd half of February is around 6.000 pax. So 1 x extra day would yield in +5% difference. Decent considering the shrinked winter timetable.

Seems like most airports in ex-YU will have strong growth in February, I heard that SKP will be around 15%. If this is true then there is something really strange in Zagreb. Second month that they are underperforming.

If they continue like then then SPU will come really close to overtaking them this year.

There is nothing strange. It's a shrinked winter schedule. ZAG has maintained +7% throughout winter so far but february due to already explained reasons. ZAG too is a seasonal airport and most announced increases for 2017. will be happening May-December. Its a simple math...past winters were around +7% as well.

But this February there is absolutely no growth, in the past there was. So something is wrong or the market is peaking unless more is invested in bringing tourists during this month.

Based on general growth and increased demand, especially from tourists visiting Zagreb. I guess we will have to wait for spring before any real numbers start to show. Still, 3.4 is possible this year.

Well you should take a look at the number of flights, and the size od aircrafts (MTOW) on february, and compare that with other months. You Will sve zvat by all accounts we should have decline this month,so this is great that number of pax grew.

As Renato has said, there was a decline in # of flights. It's a typical winter shrinkage. Airlines simply reduced their # of flights. While doing that, an airport naturally looses a small number of pax, as there are a bit less connections possible. December and January were +7% and +9%, so this is not a trend. 1 day difference makes a 4 to 5% difference in pax numbers. So, it's all OK. ZAG should be around +6% in March. Starting May, there are: Monarch, OU new flights, then in June: EK, LOT/CSA increases, Air Transat increases...Norwegian etc. The significant growth will start appearing in May. It is very predictable if you look at the planned # of flights.

This winter should have been in the red had there not been demand, as there is that gap with TAP missing, Swiss, Pula Airport was closed too, Fly Dubai "gap" etc.

Jesus, where do you see logic in thinking the figure should be bigger? If there were 8% less flights compared to last year because some of the airlines stopped flying plus some reductions, this is a number that was expected. Some logic wouldn't hurt.

The million dollar question is: why there was a decline in number of flights from the already 'reduced' winter schedule if the demand was there?

Why doesn't Adria start SKP-FRA service? They already serve FRA out of TIA and PRN. It's a new route and they would be able to take advantage of the incentives being offered. They would cannibalize some of their LJU connecting traffic, but it would be offset by additional traffic diverted from ZAG, VIE, and possibly IST. It would also provide SKP with the much needed connection to Europe's mega hubs (LHR, FRA, CDG, etc)
