Serbia and Iraq have signed a new Air Service Agreement (ASA) regulating air traffic between the two countries. Iraq's Minister for Transport, Kadhem Finjan al-Hamami, said, "This agreement will provide an opportunity for the launch of flights between Iraq and Serbia. The new agreement builds upon the previous ASA signed between Iraq and Yugoslavia in 1975". The Serbian Minister for Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlović, noted that the new agreement addresses a range of important issues relating to air transport between the two countries. Prior to the first Gulf War, both JAT Yugoslav Airlines and Iraqi Airways maintained services between Belgrade and Baghdad.
I am not an BEG cheerleader, but I can see the flights to both Iraq and Iran in next few years

ReplyDeleteThe Iraqis probably thought that Serbia was an EU member and they put the EU flag next to the Serbian. :D
DeleteThe agreement was signed in Belgrade. The flag is officially the flag of the Council of Europe of which Serbia is a member and if it wishes to it can fly it or use it at state institutions under the Council of Europe charter.

DeleteJesus, every country that is a candidate to join EU can fly the flag anywhere. EU flags are everywhere in Macedonia for example ...

ReplyDeleteThe EU is funding an air service agreement? Umm an ASA is a legal framework to regulate air traffic between two countries. There is nothing to fund except the trip of the Iraqi minister to Belgrade, but I assume the Iraqi government got that covered ;)
DeleteSo lets hope Iraqi or ASL will start to fly 3x per week. Potential is there.
