Air Serbia rolls out anniversary branding

NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia is celebrating its ninetieth anniversary with a special decal on all Air Serbia aircraft. The airline was initially established on June 17, 1927 under the name of Aeroput, making Air Serbia the eighth oldest carrier still in operation today. The commemorative decal pays homage to Air Serbia’s history by incorporating its double-headed eagle emblem alongside the logos of its predecessors, Aeroput, JAT and Jat Airways in the design. It is being applied on all 21 Airbus, Boeing and ATR aircraft in the fleet and will be clearly visible on the fuselages. Air Serbia's CEO, Dane Kondić, said, “Very few airlines in the world have an aviation lineage dating back ninety years, as does Air Serbia, making this a very exciting milestone. Our special decal has been designed to celebrate our long and colourful past by taking inspiration from our previous branding under Aeroput, JAT and Jat Airways". He added, “For me it is a great honour to be the CEO of Air Serbia and to celebrate such a major milestone together with our team, as well as our guests”.

Tomorrow, airline representatives will be joined by officials from the city of Belgrade to uncover a monument to Aeroput's founder and pilot Tadija Sondermajer in the centre of the Serbian capital. Afterwards, a special ceremony will take place in the city's Aero Club to commemorate Air Serbia's predecessor and Serbian aviation in general. Aeroput was founded as the national carrier of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, later the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and ceased operations during World War II. It was later succeeded by JAT Yugoslav Airlines, Jat Airways and Air Serbia. The date was marked by all three, and following the collapse of communism in Yugoslavia, was adopted as the national carrier's anniversary. Aeroput launched its first revenue flight on February 15, 1928 between Belgrade and Zagreb. At the time, it was only the tenth airline to be established in Europe and the world's 21st. Air Serbia will issue a special commemorative book to mark ninety years of aviation in Serbia, in keeping with tradition that was initiated by Yugoslav Airlines in 1967 and maintained each subsequent decade.

Agree but I find the 'wing' logo and livery of the 90s also nice. It was a good rebranding. Pitty the circumstances were not better.

Personally I love the flame the most. Such a shame that it represents the toughest period in the airline's history.

The flame reminds me to the conflict in that period. Everything was in flames

If I remember correctly AeroPut was actually created by using private funds of some Serbian-American businessman.
It certainly makes me proud that today we have one of the oldest airlines in the world.

Would someone tell the truth that Jat is not the successor of Aeroput de facto nor de jure. Air Serbia can only celebrate quite descent 72 years.

Exactly! It was always noted that JAT was formed on April 1st 1947, using some of former Aeroput staff and so on. You can even read that in JAT own books!!! However, by the end of 90s they started promoting themselves as founded as Aeroput in 1927. It's simply not true and they are NOT 90 years old, no matter what they say or write.

па комунистичке власти нису гледале благонаклоно на било шта из доба Краљевине, укључујући и Аеропут (да су хтели, могли су само да га национализују, и то је то), зато нису обележавали тај датум

Of course it's bullshit... Aeroput was morphed into JAT. Btw Aeroput didn't even go bankrupt during the war, it was just not flying.

It's not bullshit at all. It's correct JAT adopted this date which you can see in their 1997 book and then again in 2007. Stated correctly in ex-yu's article.

BS. JAT je pravni naslednik Aeroputa. Ovo se ne moze pravno poreci. Koji datum se koristio za proslavu je skoro nebitno.

It's no BS what can I do you don't like the truth. Aeroput and Yugoslav Airlines were operating at the same time for a while after the WWII. Therefore, ASL can neither de facto nor de jure be the successor of the company which they have shut down by force for political reasons. Evidence you can find just around you if you look hard enough.

Imam vru. A vi?

Questionable anniversary: Jat was founded independently from Aeroput, both companies existed in parallel for a while before the new government decided to take Aeroput out of the business. Similar situation with Jat/Air Serbia: how can a company be succeeded while it still exists?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous08:51

That's not true. Neither company existed parallel to the other. In the business register, Jat Airways' name was just changed to Air Serbia since it is the legal successor (it took with it IATA code, planes, staff etc). As for JAT Yugoslav Airlines, it is not the legal successor to Aeroput since it was registered as a completely new company.

Hmmm, yess they have! JAT was founded in '45, Aeroput was deleted from registry in 1948. Go figure! Likewise, Air Serbia cherrypicked from assets of JAT, It didn't take on the debth and unprofitable parts of the Aerotransport. It doesn't matter after all: fanboys gonna keeping fanning'....

It did take the unprofitable parts but debts were covered by the government as part of the deal with Etihad which is available online. It inherited Jat's unpaid Airbus order any many others. It has never been registered as a new airline or separate airline, neither was Jat bankrupted or shut down. They just changed the name. Same thing happened in 2003 when the name was changed from Yugoslav Airlines to Jat Airways.

Istinu. Air Serbia is beauty national carrier of SERBIA. That is truth!
