NEWS FLASH

Serbia and Slovenia will face off in the final of the European Basketball Championships - EuroBasket - in Istanbul tonight with additional flights and capacity being scheduled from the Turkish city to both Ljubljana and Belgrade.

An unprecedented number of services will be operated between Ljubljana and Istanbul today. Turkish Airlines will run a total of ten flights in order to ferry fans to the game. The carrier has deployed its largest aircraft, the wide-body Boeing 777-300ER, which has the capacity to seat 400 passengers, to Ljubljana this morning. Furthermore, both the morning and evening service to the Slovenian capital on Monday will be operated by the type. In addition, Adria Airways has scheduled two flights to Istanbul.

From Belgrade, Air Serbia's charter brand Aviolet has scheduled a service to the Turkish city, which will be followed up with two flights by Turkish Airlines, two flights by Atlasglobal and another flight by Pegasus Airlines.

This is FIBA's tv channel, it's good quality but I think you need to pay a few Euros to watch the games.

That is not true. It is operated by the B737-800. The bilateral agreement between Serbia and Turkey does not allow Turkish Airlines to use wide body aircraft on flights to Serbia (excluding cargo). The biggest they can send is the A321.

It's listed on Belgrade Airport as A330-200 operating tomorrow evening. They probably haven't changed it in the reservation system yet.

First of all, the bilateral says that nothing larger than a B739 can be used. Widebodies can be scheduled as charter flights which this is in a way.

Don't forget that TK already sent a widebody to Belgrade. The bilateral made sense only as long as Air Serbia operated scheduled flights to Turkey.
Given that they failed there, there is no reason to enforce the agreement.

@ 12.40 if you read the text you would have noticed it's already been written.

Belgrade is hardly worth mentioning in this story. There will be one (1) extra flight, that is the Aviolet one. Everything else are scheduled flight.

On top of that, with KK's afternoon flight is very difficult to make it in time for the game, while with TK's evening flight it is literally impossible. So the only flights from BEG that are relevant for the Eurobasket game are TK and KK in the morning (both scheduled) and PC at noon (also scheduled). And on top of that there is one charter by Aviolet. Compared to LJU it is absolutely not worth reporting.

Belgrade is also 600 km closer to Istanbul, southern Serbia even more than that. I am sure many have taken the road. Also, during the last match there were already several thousand Serbs there meaning we went earlier there than the Slovenes did.

However, given the tone of your post I think your issue is with Serbia and not with the text itself.

And why exactly are you surprised that more Slovenes have gone there than the Serbs? It's their first time in the finals and given that Dragic is retiring one can wonder when they'll be back.

Serbia is good in basketball so this is nothing out of the ordinary for us.

Also has it crossed your mind that Slovenes have bought most of the free seats in the arena?

So, we Serbs are so used to play in the finals that nobody cares :) However, the initial post is about additional flights today. If we focus only to this pice of information, I do agree with Anon 1:15: It's an interesting news when it comes to Ljubljana airport and almost no news when it comes to Belgrade, that indeed have a large numbers of schedule flights to Istanbul.
