NEWS FLASH

Sweden's BRA Braathens Regional Airlines which was contracted by the virtual carrier Montefly to operate services between Gothenburg and Banja Luka this December and next January has said that the planned flights have been cancelled. In a statement, Braathens said, "We have received word from Montefly that flights between Gothenburg and Banja Luka have been cancelled. Passengers who have purchased tickets will be refunded. We would like to emphasise that Montefly does not represent our company and further information concerning ticket sales and promotions should be addressed to them". A total of three flights were to run between the two cities - on December 22 and 28, as well as January 4, 2018. During the first three quarters, Banja Luka Airport handled a total of 16.793 passengers, representing a decrease of 2.6% on last year. Currently, Air Serbia is Banja Luka Airport's only customer, maintaining three weekly flights from Belgrade.

    Surprise, suprise!

Way to go BNX! No need for low-costs indeed.

If the flights hadn't been cancelled, big problems with the gruond-handling would be experienced there due to the airport's small gates, too small luggage conveyor belt, and a lot of other similar problems.

Of course. It is much easier to handle Air Serbia A330 that was in airport for several times.

    Corruption is killing this airport

I agree mate, bribery and corruption never fail, the airport has too much fallen behind and will not be able to easily catch up with the competition. In several last years, every now and then, they would announce a flight, different to a regular one to Belgrade of course, after which, in a month or two, they would ordinarily cancel it. This is very a bad behaviour so, I'm afraid, the potential passengers have lost their confidence in the airport and it will not be an easy thing to obliterate such a bad feeling.

I was in BNX in July and flew out with JU. There are only 2 check in counters that operate and staff are very slow. Our flight was 45 minutes late due to staff delay and late incoming aircraft. They need a staff overhaul and modernisation of the services on the ground. But mostly staff need a good kick up the you know what.

Explain to a gasterbajter why he should fly 4 people via BEG from VIE and spend 5+ hours doing this when he can drive there in about the same time. Stop anywhere and get something to eat all for about the cost of about 4 LCC fares. Plus no restrictions to luggage except what you can fit in your car.

    What is a virtual carrier?

An agency with "air" or "fly" in their name. Yet no aircraft of their own but rented/leased from other carriers and tickets sold in their own name.....
