ČSA Czech Airlines will discontinue its seasonal summer flights between Prague and Skopje as of next week as a result of low demand and a lack of available aircraft. In a statement, Czech Airlines' spokesperson, Daniel Šabik, said, "A combination of operational, economic and commercial reasons have led us to prematurely terminate flights on the seasonal route between Prague and Skopje. The last flight this year will be operated on July 18". ČSA currently maintains three weekly services between the two capitals. The airline resumed flights to Skopje in 2016. They were initially planned to run on a year-round basis but were downgraded to seasonal summer flights only.

DeleteThis is such a disappointment but I can't say I am surprised as we've seen from the report there are around 40 passengers per flight on a B737.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a shame when an airline discontinues its service to an ex-YU airport.
In my opinion the routes for legacy will be operated in Regional jet that can adjust to the demands of SKP. A 737 is to big for a route like this.

Yes but there is barely any market in OHD, just look at their overall passenger numbers. JU does very well in SKP regardless on their flight times.

ReplyDeleteThey are cancelling or rescheduling their flights for 3 years in a row. Last year they moved my flight 1:30min earlier because of change in equiplment (Atr) without any notice. I found out by web check-in. Not to mention the flying times..
Shame, that route didn't last long...

So overall their numbers are down year on year.
What I find interesting is that both BVA and LTN from SKP have seen their numbers slip over the years.
true dat, have in mind LTN is affected by Wizz opening LTN from PRN. BVA is now upgrated to A321. BTS is the star performer recently

As a legacy carrier, you need daily service to capture all connecting traffic. This was doomed to fail from day one. It doesn't help that they change their minds constantly. I bet most people didn't even know they flew the route.
ReplyDeleteThey should have no problems filling a 737 with all of the potential longhaul SkyTeam transfers. Think XXX-CDG-PRG-SKP, XXX-FCO-PRG-SKP, XXX-AMS-PRG-SKP
