Greece's Aegean Airlines will not resume seasonal flights between Athens and Zadar which were introduced during the 2018 summer season. Services were maintained twice per week with the Bombardier Dash 8 turboprop aircraft. Instead, Aegean will focus on strengthening its operations elsewhere in Croatia. During the 2019 summer season, the Greek carrier will add an extra rotation from Athens to both Zagreb and Split for a total of four and five weekly flights respectively. On the other hand, the carrier will decrease operations to Dubrovnik to five per week, down from daily, but will boost capacity by operating its mainline Airbus A320 aircraft on three out of the five weekly departures, instead of the Dash 8.
I don't think that Croatia is a strong market for Greece.
ReplyDeleteBoth countries are beach and leisure destinations therefore tend to be more receptive.
Maybe ATH-BWK might work out?
The difference being that Greeks as a nation travel A LOT outside of Greece, especially on short weekend break.

DeleteI think a ZAG-SKG would have more chances of survival than a ZAG-SKG-ATH. With Aegean flying non-stop from Athens I don't think OU would be too appealing so the cost of the tag-on wouldn't be covered from sales revenue.

DeleteActually he is right. A3 started off with 2 flights per week but they are increasing it to 3 for the summer season.

SPU being really close is hurting them.
DeleteWhen the expansion of the terminal is complete then I suspect a lot more traffic will move to it from ZAD.
ZAD had a really unfortunate year. This is 4th or 5th month of declining passenger numbers.

Who is speaking about October, we are talking about their catastrophic November. They also had a fall in April, July, August and now November.

Those are disastrous numbers. Only SPU is managing to reduce seasonality. Even ZAG's growth was disappointing.

DeleteRyanair used to Fly well into November last year. Until 10th November. This year they stopped at the end of October. The numbers are very tiney though.
