Air Serbia plans to expand its network during the upcoming 2019 summer season, which will see the carrier launch new routes after two years. As EX-YU Aviation News learns, new destinations will span across three continents - Europe, North America and Asia - however, its long haul operations will largely depend on securing necessary permits and overcoming bureaucratic hurdles on time. Air Serbia's minority shareholder, Etihad Airways, will play a significant role in the expansion, in terms of providing necessary equipment. The Abu Dhabi-based carrier is looking to transfer surplus aircraft to its partner airlines as its new Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets continue to arrive and replace older wide-bodies. In Europe, Air Serbia plans to grow its network in both the west and within the region.
Last year, Air Serbia said it was "seriously considering expanding" its destination network with long haul flights. In the past, the airline earmarked Chicago and Toronto as points of interest, as well as China. "We have already considered flights to Chicago and Toronto and these services could be introduced in two to three years", the company said in 2016. It also noted, "The Far East is also a potential market for us if you consider relations between Serbia and the People's Republic of China". Of its Europe netowrk, the airline previously commented, "There’s probably half-a-dozen to a dozen points that we could cover that we haven’t started flying to yet".
Air Serbia last introduced a new scheduled service to Venice during the summer of 2017. This year, the airline announced new flights to Geneva, only to shelve its launch less than a month after putting tickets on sale in order to "transfer capacities for charter flights". The future operator of Belgrade Airport, VINCI, has said it will fully support Air Serbia's network growth. "As concessionaire, VINCI Airports will aim at improving airport operating conditions to enable Air Serbia to offer new long haul routes as part of its hub strategy. We will work to help Air Serbia introduce new long haul routes", the company's Chairman, Nicolas Notebaert, said.

So, Serbian taxpayers will cover Etihad's losses. Etihad would be real fools to abandon this cash-cow.
The only thing is that they need to change the schedule and make it similar to the one in SOF.
Anyway, good luck ASL!
They have lost a lot of marketsharem over the last year.
Down with the lies, close Air Serbia now!
Like the YU-ARA for example.
CAI is a must. Along with BUD, IEV, IST.

Don't forget the "prestige" we get as a country from an A330 in ASL colours flying to JFK.
Balkana mentality 100%
There is no point starting new long haul routes only for 3 months. Either they open them year round or dont start them.
YYZ and PVG at 4 pw and PEK at 2-3 pw should keep 3 aircraft decently busy even in the slow periods.
Add in that maintenance happens during the slower winter period, it effectively leaves 2 aircraft doing roughly 10 weekly rotations which is ideal.
Adding more A330's shouldnt cost as much as the first as they dont need to go through the whole procedure they did when ARA arrived.

And here there is a nasty comment about their long haul JFK service and the quality of food and IFE:

I hope they consider something.
Prvo moras da shvatis da to nije tvoj novac. Vladin je i moraju samo da opravdaju na kraju godine potrosnju u budzet. Our money znaci ne postoji.
Hiring (even more) trolls to write good reviews will not solve the problem.
Actually improving the service levels and address the concerns of the customers would solve the problem.
When have they ever done that? Give me a break. It's one thing not to like the airline. Making up stuff as you do is actually being a troll.

Merry Christmas y'all
The Basque Country is the second most richest autonomous community in Spain after Madrid.
Even Catalonia is not as rich as a region.
Schedule can be every Monday and Friday as a start:
BEG-BIO 23:55 02:40 A319
BIO-BEG 03:40 05:40 A319
Even possiblity to link JFK and SVO.
The airport has a very similar traffic to that in BEG.
2017:
BEG: 5,343,420
BIO: 4,973,712
Not sure about the number of Serbs in Spain but this route is quite viable and connected to a rich region. In 2017, the Basque Country had a GDP of 33.088€!
LOL, spoken like a 1930's type of Stalinist communist!
The government does not create any money. The citizens and the businesses of the country create the wealth that the government and Dear leader tax. And those taxes they use them among other things to fund "prestige" projects.
BUD, IEV, IST surely not.
JU already tried these airorts and it did not work. No need to re-start them as nothing changed in favor of JU
MAD will not be introduced any time soon.
ZAG also considers itself a prestigious airport given the current airline portfolio it has.
BEG has ASL which converts it as a mini, regional hub.
Prestige is not very easy to achieve and sustain though.

There is a tour in the river where you can see interesting things and a city floating on the river.
Except brief mention at 9:37, no one else bothered to comment on the most important info. Just wow.
Anon @9:46, what better aircraft did you have in mind instead of used A330 for potential routes?
Think of all the prestige we will get and especially the big smiles of our politicians at the airport for the inaugural flights celebrations!

- Krasnodsr
- Trieste, instead of Venice
- Madrid
- Rijeka or some airport on the coast
I guess it was five routes, but I can't remember the fifth.
Hopefully this materializes
Bearing in mind that Vinci owns Lyon and Lisbon, i gues these flights are very likely, but I'm not sure Air Serbia will fly these destinations.
Radovan Marinkovic, Kraljevo.
North America - Atlanta, Toronto, Washington DC and Miami - launched at the SAME TIME
OR
South America - Lima, Bogota, Caracas, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires launched at the SAME TIME
OR
Africa - Addis Ababa, Casablanca, Lagos, Johannesburg and Capetown launched at the SAME TIME
OR
Far Asia - Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokio and Osaka launched at the SAME TIME
In this way, Air Serbia can establish itself as alternative to one of the continents of their preference comparing to other airlines. If not, it is just random picking of destinations from someones wish-list.
