NEWS FLASH
SAS Scandinavian Airlines will not be resuming its seasonal summer flights between Copenhagen and Sarajevo next year after only one season. The airline launched operations between the two cities during the 2018 summer season, which were to run twice per week, however, a number of services were cancelled, resulting in the airline's decision not to resume the route in 2019. Norwegian Air Shuttle will continue to maintain summer services from Copenhagen to Sarajevo.
I guess market was too small for two airlines. Such a shame. I suppose tickers weren't cheap due to high charges.

Deletethose numbers are all freely available, and most other costs/revenue figures are available at least with some reasonable accuracy. you do not have have some master degree to figure out that the airport charges are not reason that sas cancels sjj but continues spu.
Oh really and what is it then? Will you go all racist against Bosnia and say there is no market?

DeleteTo anon 10:34, "high charges" (I don't know whats high of it compared to other airports in region, but ok) of sjj are not the reason. They pumped their prices sky high so no one wanted to fly with them. Norwegian still holds the scandinavian market at Sjj (i don't think that will last long though). Their new policy about baggage made them loose many passengers this year. Also, there is Wizz who is killing it with their numbers to Scandinavia.
DeleteI don't know about you but I will pray for their return, we need more diversity in SJJ, just like Bosnia is diverse. The more options we have the lower the fare will be. SAS please come back.

ReplyDeleteYugos are extremely price sensitive, if you ask me. W6 can offer really nastily cheap fares. They already expanded nicely in CPH and apparently doing well in SKP and SOF.

I will miss SAS, they were such a nice and exotic addition to SJJ.

ReplyDeleteI heard that the cancellations the past season weren't for commercial reasons, but that SAS didn't get slots in SJJ at times even close to when they were able to operate. It makes no sense to me since the airport isn't very busy. Can the airport deny slots for other reasons?

Deletebut it is definitively right that between 12:00 and 15:00 it is rather dense in the summer.
it has not much to do with terminal capacity, but the number of parking positions is a limiting factor. Further the topography severely limits the capacity of the runway.
