Serbia grants €5 million for Niš flights, eyes Kraljevo opening

The Serbian government has adopted new regulation to grant five million euros in subsidies for the launch of ten new routes from Niš Constantine the Great Airport and has committed itself to opening Kraljevo's Morava Airport by year's end. The five million euros in subsidies will be offered for routes that are deemed to be "of public interest" for a period of up to five years. The measure stipulates that services eligible for the subsidies are either those lacking commercial interest, routes that carry less than 100.000 passengers per year, as well as those that are insufficiently served by other means of transport. The government will name the ten destinations of "public interest" later this year. If within "a short period of time" no airline shows interest for any of the routes, an international tender will be launched to find an operating carrier, according to Serbia's updated aviation law, although the government reserves the right to enter into direct talks with airlines without a public call.

The Assistant Minister for Transport, Zoran Ilić, said last week, "We expect for Air Serbia to take part in the public call, which will be open to all airlines". The Serbian government will also offer subsidies to tour operators who bring groups of Russian, Turkish, Chinese, South Korean, Indian and US tourists arriving or departing either through Belgrade or Niš airports. The government will grant up to thirty euros per visitor from Russia and Turkey and up to fifty euros for tourists arriving from the other four countries. The exact sum will depend on the length of stay. Tour operators must form a group of at least fifteen people to be eligible for the incentives. The measure is expected to boost both air travel and tourism.

The Serbian government has also said it is finalising bureaucratic procedures for the opening of Kraljevo's Morava Airport by July and the launch of scheduled flights by the end of the year. The airport's 22 million euro terminal and control tower were completed in 2012, however, its 2.200 metre-long and thirty metre-wide runway can only handle smaller turboprop aircraft. "Construction work, the purchase of necessary equipment, staff recruitment, opening of customs offices and obtaining an operating license will be completed by the end of June. The airport will be equipped with technology which enables aircraft to land during low visibility. From its opening in late June, until the end of this year, we expect several carriers to introduce flights from the airport", the Ministry for Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, said. Previously, Wizz Air noted it would be interested in flying from Morava Airport. The government has missed numerous deadlines set for the airport's opening, primarily over issues concerning its joint use for military and commercial purposes. Morava Airport is located in central Serbia between several industrial cities.

Basically ANY route can be subsidised. 100,000 passenger per year on a route is a lot. I think the busiest routes in BEG have around 260,000 per year and these are like Zurich which has 30+ flights per week in the summer.

Well that's good. It means the destination network won't be limited. Which it shouldn't. Why would the govt in Serbia be unable to subsidise say Nis-Paris if the government in Macedonia can subsidise Skopje-Turku?

      @09:21

      Absolutely true.

Another thought though. In Macedonia the govt is 'subsidizing' the routes because TAV are unwilling to offer new route discounts and/or proper volume discounts. Effectively the 'support' ends up in TAV's pockets.

In INI there's no room for that - W6 and FR are already as low as they can go. The money stays with them.

The money Croatia Airlines and Trade Air get is quite substantial.

For example Trade Air gets €1.234.254 per year just for Osijek - Zagreb!
      €357.445 for Pula-Split
      €337.117 for Osijek Rijeka
      €386.889 for Rijeka-Split-Dubrovnik

      €3.153.067 for Zadar-Pula

Long time nobody speaks about BEG getting KLM and especially not Iberia. Please do not troll.

BEG is very well served with flights to AMS by Air Serbia and Transavia using KLM codes and additionally Eindhoven by Wizzair. No need for KLM.

Spain needs to be developed as a market from BEG and therefore Air Serbia is opening MAD and BCN. Nobody was talking about Iberia in BEG as it does not make any sense.

Znaci recimo 4 i 8 centi. W6 LF 85%, JU LF 70%. 2 puta nedeljno, prosecna evropska destinacija.

Broj prevezenih putnika godisnje i po letu:
      ATR: ~10k, ~50
      A320: ~30k, ~150

Kako god, nije cudno gubiti lovu u toku prve 2-3 godine.

  28. Is it possible that Niš connects with Banjaluka?

  29. Sve ima svoj kraj. Tako i zakljucana Morava - Kraljevo. Vlada, ministarstvo saobracaja, finansija i uprava civilnog vazduhoplovstva ce cvrsto verujem uciniti sve da ne prolongiraju agoniju dugu blizu jedne decenije. Naprotiv. Zbog privrednog razvoja Srbije i turizma u buducnosti, birokratija mora biti eliminisana. Maksimalno privuci LCC prevoznike, carter letove, kargo, ad hok saobracaj... Planerima... Ponudite ovakav potencijal potencijalnim investitorima i docice!
Verujem da sam naveo istinito. Mnogima je poznato ovo o cemu pisem. Ako bude mira i pameti, Beogradski aerodrom ce imati izmedju 12 i 15 miliona putnika u iducih deset do petnaest godina. Za to nema brige. Tu je koncesionar. Francuska korporacija VICI Airports sa svojim Grckim partnerom Terna. Aerodromi Srbije jesu stozer buduceg razvoja vazdusnog saobracaja Srbije. Aerodrom Nikola Tesla jeste srce stozera buduceg saobracaja u podnebesju Srbije. Vlada i Predsednik o ovome znaju. Ostvarenje je izvesno. Jer vole Srbiju. Be the man! Let fly. Uzavicaj stari ili novi. Znate li da se Srbija uvek voli. Po cenu i da me Srbija ne voli. Vera, nada i razum mi je na strani voljenja. Zivela Srbija i njeno komercijalno vazduhoplovstvo. Za danas Dosta. Sutra? Pocetak radova na aerodromima, projektima...

Bravo Radonane.

Pogotovo infra strukture u civilnoj avijaciji. Posto je to moj zivot. I ostao. Licno volim covekovo delo sto ostaje iza njega. Reci su reci... Glasanje menja ljude, dokazi donose pohvale, a zloupotrebe donose robiju. Pod uslovom dokaza. Srecno Vam bilo.
      Radovan.

I am certain JU won't be getting any flights out of INI. They are busy building a hub in Belgrade. I think Ryanair will get most of these. Maybe some other obscure airline.

Maybe JP will apply to operate LJU flights?
