NEWS FLASH

The Croatian Minister for Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, has hinted that Croatia Airlines' various divisions could be divided and sold off separately to increase the carrier's privatisation prospects. Mr Butković noted that "several scenarios" were in play and being considered. The minister believes that a special committee will be formed today at a government session which would, together with the company's management, work on finding a strategic partner. The management board should soon select a financial adviser who should offer models that could be applied to find a future partner. Mr Butković noted that foreign investors have expressed their interest in the airline.

So they will sell what can be sold and the rest will be let go... shut down. This is best indication that the government is getting ready to shut down OU if no solution is found... fast.

There is plenty of demand for flights, the problem is the route network fails to deliver a profit. I would say they have 300 staff too many!

There is of course demand but there is also competition which takes care of it since OU doesn't care.

Croatia Airlines will never disappear, it will be revamped at best, or remain status quo at worst. But no Croatian government will ever allow its demise (national pride), they are just incompetent and will throw money at the problem infinitely, similar to what the Serbian goverment is doing with YU. All will be OK!

There are two key issues here:
First, the Minister is clearly under capacitated.
Second, but more important, he is also very influential party member but not of the Prime minister’s circle. This privatization is just a battle of the internal party wars, where PM is hoping that it will fail so badly (and it WILL fail, one way or another) that the Minister gets discredited, same as the Minister of Defence in fighter jets scandal. I'm afraid Croatia Airlines is here just the victim and their future with this Government is not bright at all.

it was a very interesting conversation to watch. butković was giving a short briefing to the news guys in the street.

everything was okay until one journo said "not all parts of the company worth the same, maybe split up the company and sell it like that?"

butković agitatedly replied: " i see that you are well informed" and stormed off
