Zagreb Airport's passenger numbers declined slightly in January, ending 21 months of consecutive growth. Croatia's busiest airport welcomed 191.197 passengers in January, representing a decrease of 0.04% or just 79 fewer travellers. The number of flight operations also remained virtually unchanged at 3.045, up from 3.039. The airport, which handled 3.336.310 passengers in 2018, has not released its growth targets for this year.
Ugh... shame. With no major announcements in sight I guess we should be lucky to have 5% at the end of the year. I am surprised KE didn't impact the numbers. Maybe those comments about them flying empty were true.

Could this also be the BNX effect? People who used ZAG from Srpska no longer have to for several routes. Let's see how ZAG-TXL performs this summer.

I don't think there's a way they get 5% growth with zero announcements. DBV expects 5% and they have a dozen new routes. I think ZAG will be happy with +0% at the end of the year.

DeleteYes, my bad... somehow bad news for ZAG is always somehow good. Remember when SKP, BEG and LJU had major sporting events? Even after that they had solid growth. Here with ZAG it has to be something different especially since growth slowed down once Ryanair started booming in BNX.

DeleteThe distance from Banja Luka to Sarajevo is exactly the same as it is to Zagreb. Maybe Sarajevo is "too far" for some reasons other than geography. I mean bad roads, of course...šatro.
DeleteAt any rate, if ZAG ever gets to depend on a few thousand travelers from Northern Bosnia, than it really will be in trouble. That's not very likely though.

Transavia in LJU affected ZAG-AMS, so why wouldn't BNX affect the routes that are served from both cities? After all, we kept on hearing in the past how northern Srpska used to gravitate towards Zagreb. What changed all of a sudden?
DeleteBNX will not affect Zag figures. Zagreb attracts a different kind of customer, who wouldn't touch Ryanair with a bargepole!

DeleteNonsense. People are usually looking for a cheap ticket and a convenient schedule. Fact is that many from Banja Luka used ZAG to fly abroad. Now when they have flights from their home town there is no longer a need to go elsewhere. That could also be a reason for Tuzla's drop in January. Many ZAG fanboys on here forget that we are talking about Serbs from Srpska who used to fly from Zagreb, not about Croats from continental Croatia who might be using BNX to fly aboard.

DeleteHaha, yes, who would want to go to Banja Luka except those that used to fly to to work in the EU capital and send home money. Politicians also now fly Ryanair. They have to stay ther 3 days because no flights available, but then who cares.

DeleteThere is still some 300.000 difference between the two but 2019 should be a good year for TIA. They are getting Edelweiss and Germania Flug both from ZRH, Wizz Air from Memmingen and Norwegian from Copenhangen.

ReplyDeleteFlew FZ ZAG-DXB-ZAG 12Jan, return 01 Feb. ZAG - DXB was 90 passengers, 4 premium. DXB-ZAG was 7 premium and Economy FULL UP TO THE LAST SEAT So please stop trolling and doom and glooming about ZAG
Of course that there are days when LF is better and days when LF is worse, but it is for sure that EK does not fly 4 months to ZAG as the loadings were generally terrible in winter months.

Agree! Zagreb will always have same or higher traffic in the future regardless of time of the year. It is still the Capital!

ReplyDeleteThat said, with the demise of Germania in PRN and the expansion of SKP, I wouldn't be surprised if SKP comes in 4th place or even reaching ZAG.
This summer there are less than 10 weekly flights being added to ZAG, I think that's bad.
