Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has registered its strongest first quarter on record by welcoming 1.034.891 passengers, representing an increase of 3.7%. It marks the first time the airport handled over one million passengers within the first three months of the year. The number of aircraft movements grew 3.6% to 13.569. The airport capped off 33 months of consecutive passenger growth. It aims to handle 6.2 million passengers in 2019, according to the Serbian Minister for Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlović. "We have projections on how many passengers will be handled, how many new flights we can expect etc", she noted. The President of operator VINCI Airports, Nicolas Notebaert, recently said, "We must now open new routes so we can secure sustainable growth in the coming years". VINCI will release Belgrade Airport's second quarter results on July 12.
I wonder if we saw their numbers falls in some months? I think these quarterly publications are misleading unless they provide monthly numbers.

With the sudden withdrawal of Air Arabia it will be tricky if no changes until year end.
New recession? Easter was last year in March and many airlines started flights to the destinations before the summer schedule began officialy, that is in the old winter timetable to get the people to their holidays.
DeleteWith this years Easter and the wish of many to travel abroad it would be quite useless from the airlines to start flight to those destinations in the middle of March, when people will actually travel for Easter holidays.
I think that this increase of 3.7% is not spectacular but is pretty good. There was not much new routes or increases in frequencies in the first quarter compared to the last year. Majority of new routes and increases in frequencies are starting with summer schedule, and if this organic growth will continue in the rest of the year plus growth from new routes and frequencies increases we can expect total growth of 6% to 7% in the busiest part of the year, and I think that is even conservative expectation. The only issue is that last year we had a big increase in April because of Euroleague F4, and also in the second and third quarter of the previous year, we had an expansion of flights from Iran so that probably going to lower the growth in Q2 and Q3 for 1%.

DeleteVoja there will be 9 new routes launching in Q3 by Air Serbi, as well as additional daily flight by Lufthansa, Austrian and Swiss. Iran flights ended during Q3.

It's not much, but it's okay.
BEG added more pax in Q1 than ZAG, SPU and DBV but a lot less than PRN.

I think that 6.2 is not impossible but is unlikely to happen. Just over 6 million is more realistic.
DeleteTo reach 6.2 you have to have a growth of 10% just like Dane said. 6 million minimum of 7%.
