Croatia Airlines discontinues use of plastic cups

NEWS FLASH

Croatia Airlines has removed plastic cups on board its aircraft. The measure went into force on Monday, June 3. In a statement, the Croatian carrier said, "In line with current trends and legal requirements in the area of environmental protection, Croatia Airlines is discontinuing the use of plastic cups on all flights". Plastic cups generate about 28% more greenhouse gasses than paper cups and take up to one million years to decompose in a landfill. Furthermore, the production of plastic cups is toxic, and the cups themselves can become a hazard by leaching toxins into the soil. From now on, the Croatian carrier will utilise paper cups and, as a result, remove some 26 tones of plastic waste per year.

Ew, imagine the sea filled with plastic just so people can be snobby about a crappy gin and tonic on a plane.

How about we actually improve the recycling process of plastic cups so that everyone wins in the end. ;)

it is not up they want to, but they are forced by EU rules. All other EU carriers was or will also do that. It is spit to promote this as Croatia Airlines free will and "care of Planet".

Paper cups will not save the planet. Not flying at all will have much greater positive impact on the environment but I don't see Croatia Airlines caring that much about the planet.
