Tivat Airport studying nighttime operations

NEWS FLASH

Operator Airports of Montenegro has launched tender procedures to select a consultant which will elaborate and study the advantages of enabling Tivat Airport to handle flights during night time. The tender winner will have 150 days to finalise its findings in cooperation with relevant state authorities. The deal is worth 450.000 euros. Since its opening over sixty years ago, Tivat Airport has only worked during daylight hours and does not have the necessary runway lighting equipment to remain open more than half an hour past sundown. If the consultant finds that Tivat Airport's nighttime operations are viable and justified, the operator would aim to keep the airport operational from early morning until 23.00.

This would be fantastic since JU could also launch a middle of the night departre to offer connections to the US as well.

    1. Or JU could just try to get a better slot on JFK :)

  3. It would be great! Summer arrival/departure frequency is definitely too high for the current working hours and thr airport's capacities. Nevertheless, it seems landing lights were not the only reason for the nightime restriction, but also are the nearby obstacles (hills left and right) on the approach path. They have also been piloting the PBN and Egnos navigation in 2015 in the context of introducing the night flights. Anybody?

Yeah, but you have nearby Podgorica (TGD) without any restrictions.

Did you drive or took a bus from or to Herceg Novi to Podgorica airport in the rush hour or during night trough the mountains for 2-2,5 hours, especially if you are tired? Not really nearby and convenient. Even worse for large groups of passengers (50+) during summer.
