NEWS FLASH

Lufthansa commenced double daily flights from Frankfurt to Ljubljana yesterday, marking the first time the carrier has run scheduled services to the Slovenian capital in 45 years. It previously served the city as an alternative to Zagreb in 1974 during the Croatian airport’s runway reconstruction. Commenting on the new service, the Head of Sales for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe at the Lufthansa Group, Peter Pullem, said, “A few months ago, I never imagined that I would be here in Slovenia. The reason we are here today came unexpectedly. We are sad about the developments with our partner Adria Airways”. Mr Pullem noted the airline is working on rescheduling its flights in the future so as to offer better connections for transfer passengers. Last year, Adria Airways carried 150.000 travellers on its service between the Slovenian capital and Frankfurt. Some 70% of those transferred onto other Lufthansa flights. Lufthansa will launch daily operations from Munich to Ljubljana on Friday.

LH operated scheduled cargo flights to LJU with B737F till te split of Yugoslavia, then LH flight to LJU as alternative to ZAG as the airport remained closed during civil war.

LH was also serving LJU for a limited time in the first half of '92 as an alternative to ZAG since there was fighting too close to ZAG and they deemed it too dangerous to operate.

Interesting side note; this “route” was taken from Trieste and moved to Ljubljana.

No, they are closing the Munich-Lodz route. All while some Fraport Slovenia employee commented here that Lufthansa wasn't taking the LJU market seriously enough. Care saying that to the people of Lodz?

Strange replacement, because Lodz area has more population than whole Slovenia.

This says a lot about seriousness of LH!
As usual most experts on this forum are couch airline managers... LJU will be a lonely island and similar...LOL

What seriousness exactly? Three daily on a tiny regional jet with less than 90 seats?

As for LJU becoming an island, let's see passenger numbers as they will be best proof.

Lufthansa: our goal in LJU has been achieved. There is no Adria, Fraport controls the airport and our group will command most of EU and transatlantic transfers. Sehr gut!
