NEWS FLASH

Low cost carrier easyJet will introduce flights between Luton and Ljubljana this summer, making it the airline's third route from London to the Slovenian capital following Gatwick and Stansted. Services will commence on March 30 and operate four times per week, each Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. In addition to London, easyJet also serves Ljubljana from Berlin. The budget carrier replaces Wizz Air on the Luton route, which the latter discontinued last October. The growing number of routes being introduced, as well as carriers launching flights to Ljubljana is fuelling hope for the airport's quick recovery following the collapse of Adria Airways last September. Further flight details for the new Luton - Ljubljana service can be found here.

This officially kills any future plans by Wizz Air to return. easyJet has just massively consolidated their position in LJLJ and they can't break through their defenses. This is a brilliant move by easyJet.

because there is demand from uk ..lufthansa group price fixing monopoly into Lju is threathened!!
massive market to exploit by marketing what Slovenia has to offer maybe should look at other regions of uk rather than concentrate on London

Dear I am sure they will, this was mostly to block Wizz from returning. Luton is at maximum capacity so it's really hard for Wizz to fight for its own place under the sun. easyJet just destroyed them in LJLJ. Personally I don't mind as easyJet is such a nicer airline to fly on.

"no, but low cost beer for british 'alcohol tourists' :D" haha a good one.but luckily there's not much of that to be seen here (at least massively), so it must be a diierent structure of pax and/or British tourists

No, dear. It is quite a common practice for many EU capitals to be connected to at least 3 London airports.
BUD and WAW are connected to basically all 6 London airports: LHR, LGW, STN, LTN, LCY & SEN.

No, dear. But EU capitals need serious destinations and London is one of them. As you can see people in LJU do not want to fly to FKB or VXO but London. Hope it is more clear now.

Dear, of course it's clear that there is no real market outside of Slovenia other than London. It's the only destination that can sustain several daily flights based on O&D, all other destinations are there because of transfers like MUC, FRA, SVO

I think this is good, LJU is definitely becoming a regional hub for London flights. Aren't they number one right now?

This summer LJLJ will have 20 weekly flights to London, that's pretty big. London is Slovenia's gasterbajter market. :D

I am flying 4-8 times to London every year from 2014 and every time the LF was 95% or more, so there's definitely enough demand.

I would love to see easyJet announce something else than London. Maybe Paris, Barcelona, Lisbon, Manchester...all of these could work out at least seasonally 2pw.

I am confident that things will get better for LJU, airlines need time to enter new markets, they can loose a great deal of money if they don't plan new routes the right way. As a customer I always try to find the most convenient flight from either ZAG or LJU, it is not always the price that is the most important.

I read the comments regarding British drunken tourists visiting LJU. I actually disagree.
London is a rich and important city: a financial centre, a tourist destination, a study destination and many more and Brits, similar to Germans travel a lot.
Last year, BA initially launched LHR-LJU from 15.07 - 02.09. This year, the first flights starts on 25.05 and ends on 25.09, which is a serious extension. Not to mention the upping of the capacity to A321.
We clearly see huge demand on the route.
As for U2, they launched the typical early morning departures because they have more demand. Good for them and good luck!

I wouldn't say there are so many drunken british tourists coming to LJU with Easyjet. It's a good mix of tourists from both ends, some business travelers, many Slovenes working in the UK or have friends/relatives there. And surprisingly I have been seeing a lot of British families with children lately. And also worth mentioning quite a lot of people from Croatia and Austria are using these flights.
