Serbia plans flight resumption from May 1

Serbia plans to partially resume commercial flights “around May 1”, the country’s President, Aleksandar Vučić, said yesterday. It comes following last week’s announcement that the “controlled” opening of Serbia’s airports for commercial traffic would occur during the week of May 4 and May 11. “It all depends on what the doctors say and if the situation remains under control. I expect the partial resumption of commercial flights on or around May 1, because it is easiest to control arrivals through airports. For starters, flights can resume to those airports in Europe and elsewhere which are open and operating”, Mr Vučić said. Air Serbia has been selling tickets for flights from May 1 onwards. If all goes to plan and services resume, the airline’s operations in May will be severely restricted due to airport closures and travel bans.

Currently, European carriers including Aegean Airlines, easyJet, LOT Polish Airlines and Montenegro Airlines are selling tickets on flights to the Serbian capital during the first half of May, although this is subject to change. Among other global airlines, Qatar Airways, which continues to maintain services to around forty destinations globally, has previously scheduled its Belgrade flight resumption for June 1. A member of the Serbian government’s Covid crisis team said on Monday that all incoming passengers would be given an order to self-isolate upon arrival for a period of 28 days and their whereabouts monitored. The government is yet to communicate whether a ban on all foreigners entering the country, which is currently in place, will continue to be enforced.

Serbia’s Foreign Minister, Ivica Dačić, noted that Air Serbia’s ongoing repatriation flights will most likely come to an end. “In the coming days we will discuss this matter and whether these flights will continue in case other containment measures are eased. We will likely no longer organise these types of humanitarian flights and we will instead look at other options”, Mr Dačić said. Air Serbia has been operating a number of repatriation flights across Europe, Asia and North America over the past month, carrying some 13.000 passengers. The flights have been free of charge for all passengers. For the first time in weeks, the carrier has no repatriation services scheduled for today.

Is JU selling all flights from 01.05 or just some?

they sell tickets for all because they need cash (every airline). I dont think all will start at that point.

I can tell you for example that SKP will not be open on Prvi Maj :)

      It says in the article

"For starters, flights can resume to those airports in Europe and elsewhere which are open and operating"

Also I doubt it will start on the 1st of May but probably during the first week of May

      Not for all flights.
BSL-BEG-BSL with U2 can be purchased for flights until end of April 2021

They are selling tickets also for airports that are closed for commercial flights, e.g. Ljubljana.

Most likely to countries that allow Serbs to travel to them.

    2. Anonymous09:14

^ Most likely not. They will fly to other cities as well because many Serbs living in other countries are citizens of that country.

Then aircraft would be flying almost empty. Unless this countries wave the requirement of quarantine for everyone entering their borders pretty soon.

What will happen in the case that JU starts flying to Frankfurt but after arrival to BEG you need to stay in self isolation for 14-28 days and your return flight is 3 days after arrival?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Anonymous09:15

28 days isolation makes absolutely no sense.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous09:19

      14 is the same.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous09:24

28 does seem excessive but most countries have a minimum of 14 days.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous09:54

In Croatia in this scenario you would need to finish the period of self isolation (14 days in Croatia) before having a chance to fly back. If you would fly back after 3 days from arrival, you would be seen as breaching the self isolation order. I guess in Serbia is the same.

    5. Anonymous11:14

I think that in Croatia you can leave the country before your self isolation period finishes

  4. Anonymous09:14

I do not see the point of flights if all passengers who arrive to Serbia will go to self-isolation for a period of 28 days

    1. Anonymous09:19

But even if it is 14 days what will happen to the passengers who have return flight 2-3 days after arrival?

Officicially the flights won't be canceled but you can't catch return flight as you need to stay at home.

    2. Anonymous09:25

Do these passengers get refund for missed return flights or not?

    3. Sasa14:38

Yes this is biggest concern for anyone planning to fly. Hope they will do something, reduce it and allow to fly back in short time or remove it completely.

  5. This doesn't make sense. I had covid in USA with two negative genetic tests and positive antibodies test that I have immunity. We should not be in quarantine as I have certificate I am actually immune for the time being

    1. Anonymous09:31

The Government must set rules about which type of tests it accepts as proof that you and others are immune and then set the rules for airlines and airports to follow. I am afraid it will take time because they want to co-ordinate that with other European countries.

In my opinion Air Serbia could have flown BEG-INI during the coronavirus crisis to transport medical workers and anyone else that needed to get between the two considering intercity transport has been stopped.

I wonder if Qatar Airways will bring forward their BEG resumption. The first two flights in June are getting full from Doha (probably all people stuck everywhere east of the Middle East).

Many travel bans which were announced until June, July will be lifted ahead of schedule especially in Europe. As things start returning to some normality so will these quarantine restrictions be shortened and so on. I remember last week how everyone said there would be no travel to EU until September because Macron said so. As you can see, many EU countries are reopening their boarders.

While they still have time before relaunching flights, I checked the management has FINALLY began responding to all the TripAdvisor comments! I think someone from JU reads the ex-Yu aviation section because we have talked about this for so many times.
Still curious why they had many complaints about cancelled flights (non COVID-19)

As long as there is mandatory quarantine of any kind it would make no sense to go anywhere and I highly doubt they would just reopen flights for the citizens of the specific countries alone where the airline is located. Those planes will be flying empty. It does not matter if it is Air Serbia, Croatia Airlines or anyone else.

Tickets are already on sale on Amadeus and flights are listed on Air Serbia schedule official site.
But ALL citizens of Sebia are locked until 4th of May
    and even more important
Montenegro state is not accepting any foreign flights for near future.

Can anybody explain this - it can not be a mistake, its done on purpose but why it is a mystery .
