Air Serbia delays broader service resumption

NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia will resume commercial flights to Vienna, Frankfurt, London Heathrow and Zurich from next Monday but will delay the broader relaunch of its network, initially planned for June 1, until June 15 due to the European Commission’s recommendation to extend temporary entry restrictions for non-EU citizens. As previously reported, flights to certain destinations will be operated as planned, others will be run at reduced frequencies, while flights to several destinations will be temporarily suspended. Services to Podgorica, Zurich, Vienna, Paris, Tirana, Zagreb, Skopje, Bucharest, London, Sarajevo, Sofia, Frankfurt, Brussels, Kiev, Krasnodar, Zadar, and Nice will remain mostly unaffected from mid-June. Operations will be optimised to Tivat, Ljubljana, Athens, Thessaloniki, Amsterdam, Prague, Moscow, Berlin, Rome, Istanbul, Milan, Dusseldorf, Dubrovnik, Split, Larnaca, Copenhagen, Stuttgart, New York, Banja Luka, Tel Aviv, Stockholm, Venice, Pula, Barcelona, St Petersburg and Madrid. Air Serbia will not operate flights to Helsinki, Lviv, Amman, Florence, Chisinau, Rostov on Don, Malta, Geneva, Cairo, Beirut and Rijeka.

Oh well, let's see if they postpone things for July.

EC recommendation is until 15th of June. I think they won't prolong it more.

    2. Anonymous11:36

Even if they do not prolong it non-EU passengers will have to go into quarantaine for 14 days which will significantly reduce demand.

      This is my case

      Flights FRA-BEG-FRA
      Departure 10.6
      Return: 14.6

Despite recommendations from German Government not to be travelled out of Germany until 15.6.2020 this flight is not cancelled and will be flown. So no reimbursement possible.

Even if I decide to fly I need to stay in self isolation for 14 days. In that case I can't return to FRA.

Does anyone have any idea what I could do in this case?

    4. Anonymous12:09

You can move your flight to a later date. It's free of charge.

    5. Anonymous12:23

If you arrive to BEG with a negative corona test that's not older than 72 hours you will not go to quarantine or home isolation. You can go wherever your heart desires. If you require a corona test on your flight back to Deutschland, it will cost you €60 and there will be acredited labs here in Србијa that can do it.

JU might be inspired by FR and resume operations in August.
The wisest decision is to completely forget about 2020 and focus on March 2021 just like W6 is doing.
Lease the Airbuses during winter and that's it.

What are you taking? Yes Air Serbia should cease flights for a year and lease out planes. Rubbish.

      Delete
    5. Sure. 90% of the world's aviation is affected by the coronavirus and you think that JU would be able to lease their planes to those few countries that aren't maybe affected at the moment, but will be sooner or later? Again, quite optimistic.

    6. Anonymous14:51

Air Serbia should cease flights for a year - sounds like an ultimate dream for Air Serbia haters, doesn't it? How come no one is calling for LH, OU and Wizz to stop flying for a year or two, just Air Serbia? LOL haters...

    7. Who are you talking to?
And, who said Air Serbia should stop flying for a year?

Also, do you have anything new or remotely more original than to throw around "haters" comment?

      Delete
    8. Anonymous15:57

Oh anon 14:51 please spare us the typical fanboy victim comments. This was a suggestion and NOT an attack! JU can lease its plans to foreign carriers in need and not affected by corona. Africa is the best example.

      Delete
    9. Anonymous16:48

      @Anon 15:57
What non-cargo carrier specifically is not affected by corona? How many and how old are Air Serbia OWNED planes that Air Serbia can offer without restictions? How many thousands of newer planes are parked and available for any kind of wet/dry lease around the world right now? What is the demand for leasing planes in Africa right now? Why should LH, OU, Wizz, Ryan not stop flying for a year and lease their planes "to foreign carriers in need and not affected by corona"?

Better yet, don't answer any, this was funny enough!

    10. Anonymous18:53

JU needs to focus on winter lease to survive 2020. This is the only possible solution at the moment. There will always be demand for travel in SEPTEMBER Asia for example.

But how can they fly to VIE and FRA?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Anonymous12:06

For the millionth time, it's not a ban on non-EU airlines but a restriction on entry for non-EU citizens. Many Serbian people living in Austria and Germany are citizens of those countries. These flights can also be used by Serbian citizens who will transit through these cities to get to Belgrade. They can also be used by people who have residency in these countries. They can also be used by people who work in these countries (regardless if they are not citizens of those countries). For example in Switzerland, if you are a Swiss citizen or resident they will allow your family to come even if they are not Swiss citizens.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous12:11

Yes airlines can fly but the damand will be minimal.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous12:14

But it is then the case eith each EU airport and following that logic they could also fly to ARN, CDG, AMS, BRU... wherever Serbian diaspora can be found.

Why do they limit then the list of EU destinations only to FRA and VIE?

      Delete
    4. Anonymous12:17

Because that is where there is most of this limited demand. Is it that hard to think?

      Delete
    5. Anonymous12:24

Well, I can't be sure that ARN, AMS or CDG have less demand than VIE

      Delete
    6. Anonymous12:25

They are also well connected airports in Europe. A Serb who desires to go back home and is living in Cologne or Hamburg can reach FRA and fly back to Belgrade. That is why it's good LH is resuming flights to BEG, they will resume connectivity with the world we need. Unfortunately JU is more worried about transfers so they can't be relied upon.

      Delete
    7. Anonymous12:27

You can be sure because Germany, Austria and Switzerland have the largest Serbian population outside of Serbia, most of which are citizens of those countries, residents or workers. LHR is fot long haul connection from US and Canada.

      Delete
    8. Anonymous12:48

People always underestimate Serbia's demand to the UK. Ok, it's not on the same level as Romania, Bulgaria or Slovenia but JU manages to run 9 weekly flights and Wizz Air four on the slaveship A321. Both rely exclusively on local traffic, no transfers.

London might not be for transfers, it's for our good people who live in the UK.

      Delete
    9. Anonymous13:11

No transfers from UK? :D Every single tripreport on JU from the UK is transfer.

      Delete
    10. Anonymous17:43

JU's LHR flight doesn't fit into any wave so any connection they get is quite random. Morning flight departs at 10.25 and arrives back at 17.10. So it only connects to Montenegro both ways. It's not like Paris where there are days in summer when 95% of passengers are transfers.

The rule in Serbia is you either come with a negative test and you are free or 14 day self isolation. You can't go out at all and they do very frequent checks. You go out you get arrested.

All I have to say if you know Serbian is that “znaš kakvi su naši” haha. happy to be home but many anxious, angry people on the flight saying how for months they’ve been in jail in Austria and now our ppl are making them “go to jail”...

@2nd anon no they currently don’t , I asked, however they said to call mt local prebivalište tomorrow and ask about if I may go somewhere for testing to get out of 14 days home isolation which all of us got EXCEPT those who had tests.

Flight was enjoyable by the way, very friendly flight attendants, everybody with masks, water + noblice were placed in seats before boarding. Vienna airport virtually empty.

Once we landed, flight attendant asked everybody to please stay seated, normally everybody stood up. A police officer came on board and asked if anybody had prior tests from Austria to show, some 4-6 ish people said they did and went out first.

And I thought there is a lack in Covid testing kits. So Basically I can just do that at my doctor´s place and do it now?

      Delete
    5. Anonymous15:49

There is no lack of testing kits in Serbia. Around 6000 people are tested daily and there have been over 125,000 tests done. More would be done on a daily basis of there were enough labs to conduct the tests. Also Serbia is now producing its own tests. You will be able to get tested at hospitals in Serbia, public and private from next Monday for 50 euros.

If you are not in Serbia then I don't know what the testing situation is in your country.

      Delete
    6. Anonymous17:45

Actually in Serbia the test will cost €60 and the kits are manufactured in Nish. So that's great, at least we won't be ripped off by paying €190 to €240.
