Brussels Airlines is discontinuing its seasonal services from Brussels to both Zagreb and Zadar, as the airline looks to cut marginally profitable and unprofitable routes and reduce its fleet size as a result of the financial impact of the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic. Brussels Airlines launched year-round services between the Belgian and Croatian capitals in 2015 but turned the route into a seasonal summer operation in 2017. Services to Zadar were introduced in 2017, replacing the defunct Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium, which maintained the route up until that point. Croatia Airlines will now have a monopoly on the Zagreb – Brussels service, once it resumes flights to the Belgian capital.

DeleteNothing extreme. Just very small leg room, bad quality of BOB offering, no human touch by staff whatsoever. Very far from a "fantastic airline to fly on". But that's just my experience, of course. (I flew BRU-TXL in 2018)
DeleteI have also heard from a colleague who flew BRU-DLA that service is bad and can't be compared to Air France.
DeleteWith such bad service and high costs no wonder they are about to go bankrupt.
DeleteGreat, now OU can go back to charging you €300 to fly to Brussels on a turboprop. I guess flying from LJU on SN/W6 will be more affordable.

ReplyDeleteSo they are basically cancelling a lot of tourist destinations and taking over MUC and FRA + ZRH from Swiss.

Calvi and Figari (Corsica, France),
Palermo and Catania (Sicily, Italy),
Funchal (Madeira, Portugal),
Hanover (Germany),
Hurghada (Egypt),
Chania, Kos, Rhodes, Santorini and Zakynthos (Greek islands),
Krakow (Poland),
Moscow Sheremetyevo and Saint Petersburg (Russia),
Almeria, Seville and Valencia (Spain),
Marrakesh (Morocco), and
Zadar and Zagreb (Croatia)
The Zagreb route was struggling before as well. It would not have become seasonal if it wasn't.

ReplyDeleteI wonder if ZAG is trying to prevent all these airlines from leaving. Do they offer them some special incentives like no fees or something? Anyone have a complete list of airlines that suspended ZAG until now?

ReplyDeleteSo....nothing to with Lufthansa's long stated intention to fold SN into the long-haul operation and have Eurowings serve short-haul LCC/middle of the market routes? Zagreb has plenty to offer as a destination and airlines will use any opportunity such as plague, terrorism, economic collapse, to try to screw a better deal out of the airport. If the airport does start to engage with LCCs to kick-start the market, this could be the start of something good. The hotel sector in Zagreb will have to up its game though.
