British Airways will be resuming flights to its network in the former Yugoslavia from next month. The airline will reintroduce four weekly services from London Heathrow to Zagreb and Split on July 9. Operations from London City to Split have been scheduled from August 3. The British flag carrier will return to Dubrovnik from London Gatwick on July 16 with three weekly services, while operations from Heathrow to Ljubljana will be reinstated on August 3. The carrier’s new one weekly service from Heathrow to Pristina will go ahead as scheduled on July 4. Planned new flights to Podgorica have been cancelled.
It would be nice to see BA in BEG next year maybe.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why they are ignoring the market. Wizz Air boosted LTN to 4 weekly and they send the A321, JU does really well in LHR and now we might see LGW-INI. That said, I'd rather see easyJet come than BA.
DeleteBA is actually more important for connections then for p2p like easyjet or Wizz. BA has huge route network from LHR to all over the world so they are must for better conectivity of Belgrade with rest of the world.
DeleteUnfortunately it's a very poor option for Serbs because we still need a transit visa for LHR, even when directly connecting to the next flight.

DeleteYou do not require a British visa if you are transferring at LHR and have a valid US/Canadian visa.
DeleteFor travelling to USA/Canada Serbs do not need transit UK visa if they already posses visa for final destination.
DeleteBut what can offer BA from LHR that BEG does not have through AMS, CDG, FRA, MUC, WAW, ATH, FCO, ZRH, VIE, SVO, DXB, DOH, AUH, IST?
It can offer better conectivity.

DeleteBelgrade growth must come from Air Serbia. They already have interlines at LHR so passengers have great connectivity options without BA serving BEG.

DeleteI just think easyJet would be better to stimulate local demand. There is enough connections via other hubs.
DeleteWould love to see British Airways flying to BEG from LHR/LGW. They are cheap on TIA-LGW route, sometime they sell it for 18£ only !
ReplyDeletehopefully the UK Government establishes the much talked of "air bridges" to the region in time to avoid quarantine on return to UK, otherwise I suspect BA won't operate. Much talk that the initial air bridges from the UK will be to a select few EU markets, not the entire EU. Hopefully the UK authorities don't miss Croatia and Slovenia (and the other markets with low infection rates) by simply focusing on the big EU markets
ReplyDeleteOnly flying to Croatia makes sense to me regarding British Airways. As for Serbia they are small market & unattractive for Brits. Ps the Serbs needs visas for so many countries including UK ,even transit one.

DeleteIs it though? I mean they don't seem to be that crazy about it this year given the collapse of bookings. Just look where Wizz Air has expanded to from Luton and you will see what markets are attractive for Brits.

DeleteI am very pessimistic that many of these services will actually run this year given the UK quarantine policy and focus of the UK on securing air bridges with a few countries that don't seem to include Croatia and Slovenia
ReplyDeleteFYI I was booked on the LHR > LJU service starting on 3rd August, with a return date of 7th August. Both flights just got cancelled by BA. So there will be a further delay...
