NEWS FLASH

Garuda Indonesia operated a charter service between Jakarta and Belgrade over the weekend, marking a rare arrival of the south-east Asian carrier to the region. Although the ongoing coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic has seen more exotic traffic and equipment across the former Yugoslavia, the Garuda Boeing 777-300ER aircraft was carrying neither repatriated citizens nor medical cargo. On board was an Indonesian delegation headed by the country’s Minister for Law and Human Rights on an official visit to Serbia. The aircraft is primarily used on Garuda's commercial service between Jakarta and Amsterdam.

LOL. Makes you wonder what on earth is Indonesia's Minister for Law and Human Rights doing in Belgrade. Some governments are really reckless in spending their taxpayers' money.

Well there was a good reason that you might not know about perhaps ? And while maybe not many Indonesians come here to visit as tourists, there is a number of students from Indonesia studying here.

Yes, I read this. But it all starts like this. First charter then scheduled.
How many Indonesians visited Serbia in 2019?

Your comment would make sense if this was a passenger charter, but it was a GOVERNMENT charter. So it does not start like this.

Numbers are probably insignificant. I really dont know which Indonesian would visit Serbia for tourist purposes.

You are really not serious. Visas are really not so important, demand is. For flights to Canada there were attempts, but failed ones and these countries have 100x more demand then Indonesia and there is simply no demand for direct flights. There are only 4 cities conected with Indonesia in Europe, Moscow, Istanbul, London and Amsterdam and all other are well conected to Indonesia via Middle Eastern hubs. I know that you love your home airport but facts do not care about your feelings. Some people here really do not understand aviation at all...

Effort was made and indeed Indonesia promoted Serbia in many occasions in both Bali and Jakarta. You are obviously underestimating the importance of this first government charter. Even if Moscow and Istanbul are connected that doesn't mean other European capitals can't be connected.

I didnt say that other european capital cant be connected. I said that there is simply no demand for direct flights from a country like Serbia. Who needs to go to Indonesia, he will do it via larger hubs like Istanbul, Doha etc. And what does mean "underestimating the importance of this first goverment charter"? That charter is not going to make one unsuccesful airline like Garuda to open flights to BEG if they cannot even make profit to mega city London.
