Serbia - Montenegro air taxi travel soars amid ban

NEWS FLASH

Travel by private jet between Serbia and Montenegro has reached record levels in previous months as scheduled flights between the two countries are yet to resume amid the coronavirus pandemic. Despite Serbian nationals being barred from entering Montenegro, they are allowed to do so if arriving by private jet at either Podgorica or Tivat airports. As a result, just last week, over thirty chartered private flights operated between Serbia and Montenegro carrying up to ten passengers each. Over 500.000 passengers travel on commercial flights between the two countries each year. There are growing indications commercial services between the two may be restored next month. Prior to the pandemic, Air Serbia and Montenegro Airlines planned to jointly operate 103 weekly flights between the two countries at the height of this summer season, with the Serbian carrier scheduling 60 weekly services, while its Montenegrin counterpart 43.

      Around 500 EUR

    2. So is that 500 EUR contingent on the private flight being full?

Crazy, this shows how senseless this political decision was by the MNE government. Ordinary citizens working in the tourist sector will pay the price.

I have a feeling this was introduced only because someone was to profit massively.

Before pandemic, critics used to say the lack of additional regular or charter tourist destinations such as Morroco, Portugal, Naples, Canary Islands, Spanish coast other than Barcelona (not to mention long haul tourist destinations) from Belgrade is due to market being very poor. Thirty weekly flights on private jets just to Montenegro and Wizz planning to go A321 year round to Lisbon says someone needs to do a bit better market research.

      Not because of that.

MNE is actually looking into EU citizens usually willing to spend more money in the country and stay longer such as Brits and Poles. Normal move to select whom to let in or not.

There are no Brits coming because they have to isolate for 10 days on return. If you look at the statistics from Montestat, it is Serbian tourists who stay the longest and spend the most overall. So your methedology is flawed.

Why private jet? Why not private airplane (including turboprop and piston)?
People often thinking all (jet) or nothing (stay at home). When arrive ATR72 they comment: Partizanska eskadrila, thinking only Jet is an airplane. This problem is not only in aviation, but general culture problem...
