NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia will increase its number of operations between Belgrade and New York in October with plans to operate 34 flights during the month, ten more compared to October 2019. Next month, a total of 8.636 seats will be offered to the Big Apple, which is a 41.7% increase compared to the 6.096 seats available during the same period last year. “Due to increased demand, we have decided to increase the capacity on our New York flights. We are very happy that, despite the coronavirus pandemic, this route is still doing well and it has proved to be one of Air Serbia’s top routes”, the airline’s General Manager for Commercial and Strategy, Jiri Marek, said. Air Serbia has operated a total of 758 return flights to New York up until this August since launching services to the city in June 2016. The Serbian carrier has seen its overall operations increase across its network in recent weeks.

Wow! Amazing news, good job JU!

Znači 4X nedeljno. Nije loše.

Yeeeeeees!!! Fantastic news really. Good job JU. Hopefully this helps them build a brand in New York and that when YU-ARB comes they can add more flights.
10:37

So how many weekly flights will that be?
10:38

4

Finally JFK pays off!
Great news. Now we can see the advantage of having TATL flights from BEG.
10:39
Anonymous said…
But they already operate 4. No? Did they have 3 last year?
10:42
Anonymous said…
It's for the month of October, like the article says. last month they had 2 flights in October

Where are AS JFK rout haters this morning :)? There is even more room to increase to 5 a week over winter and 6 over winter holidays .
11:34

Hopefully they increase flights in November as their competitors struggle.
11:36

This can boost both their European and regional network as many can't fly normally as most flights have been cancelled. I don't think UA is even flying to Europe at the moment.

Time to add ORD to the list. Maybe next summer season.

"Air Serbia will increase its number of operations between Belgrade and New York in October with plans to operate 34 flights during the month"

How do they plan to operate 34 flights in October when October has only 31 days?
12:26
Anonymous said…
It's 34 flights in total. 17 each way.
12:27

I think they profited the most from the EU transfer ban so thank you Mr Trump for that! I also noticed that TK is struggling quite a bit as well, i don't think they have more than 5 weekly to JFK right now.

Thanks :)

Given that the flights are in high demand JU should raise the prices for JFK and increase profits and take the bite off the previous losses. It might also increase the chances of another aircraft.

I'm really curious what their load factor is right now for the JFK flights
13:27

I think their biggest problem from October to March was the low utilisation of the 330. This year that's no longer the case.

Aircraft lease for ARA has halved as well.

JATBEGMEL said…
Hopefully this trend continues into the following winter months, where it goes to 1-2 pw.
14:55

YYZ was supposed to be next, while there was talk for flights to China to be launched. BEG was one of the most underserved destinations from PVG. Maybe they could do 3 pw for both.

Flights to New York have never operated once per week.
14:57

True, two weekly was the lowest they went in like November

Love this! Congrats!

That surely is the main reason albeit a temporary one only.

Is Air Serbia going to have a service to Budapest anytime soon? If yes, I would even consider choosing JU over the Lufthansa group for my upcoming visit to Hungary... I looked at it and prices are in the $600-700 range, which is a steal...
17:21

Air Serbia dosen't plan to fly to Hungary. But LOT is supposed to launch Budapest-Belgrade at the start of the winter season.
17:36
Anonymous said…
You can always travel to BEG by car of combi.

LOT launching BUD-BEG is irrelevant.
17:43
Anonymous said…
True, I can take a car. By the way, glad to see such an active (regional) commercial aviation news site out here, with a lot of active commenting. I am originally from Hungary, living in the US, and it is truly sad to see how provincial the BUD airport has been (forget about covid now), even one of the most significant aviation sites (budflyer) is completely irrelevant, no commenting at all, I frequently come here if i want to get uptospeed on what is happening in the region. Be well, be safe, be free. Regards.

LO currently doesn't offer any connections out of BUD.
19:33

I should of written it better, my bad. The system was showing 1 pw for a week or 2, in february 2021 I think, but its now showing 2 pw. Perhaps it was a glitch.
19:35
JATBEGMEL said…
BUD was tipped to be launched this year amongst others, but they apparently had a shortage of aircraft and never went ahead with it. OSL was the same, but in the end they launched it, so who knows.

If the demand for JFK to BEG is so high then what about JFK-TGD? Can a route like that be profitable? Also good job to JU!
21:33

PRN has much more demand. Don't forget that there were plans to launch flights.

https://www.exyuaviation.com/2016/10/pristina-airport-eyes-new-york-service.html

"New York was the top unserved destination from Pristina in 2015. Some 13.000 travellers flew from Pristina to the Big Apple (JFK Airport and Newark Liberty) last year. Of those, 10.000 were headed for New York's JFK Airport"

Just imagine now in 2020.

JATBEGMEL you usually have very reliable information, when was YYZ suppsed to start?

UA is flying to Europe.
I saw that they fly from IAH and EWR to FRA and from SFO to MUC. There are probably more flights because I just took a small glimpse to their Covid-19-network for September.
22:56
Anonymous said…
Also, UA flies IAD and ORD to FRA, IAH to AMS and EWR to MUC.
23:03
Anonymous said…
Could JU ever negotiate a few summer charters from JFK to PRN.
Obviously not now but in the future, as a one-off.
23:09
Anonymous said…
Doubt it, it would be a logistical nightmare. Would just easier to offer connections from SKP
23:12
Anonymous said…
Plus not until relations are totally normalized.
23:14
Anonymous said…
How can they make 34 flights in 30 days with one plane?
01:06
Anonymous said…
34 flights in total. 17 each way.
01:32
Anonymous said…
I think loads are abysmal, many of them end up being cancelled.
