NEWS FLASH
LOT Polish Airlines will temporarily discontinue operations between Warsaw and Ljubljana this September. The carrier will operate its last flight between the two cities on September 16. Services are currently scheduled to resume at the start of the 2020/2021 winter season, on October 25, however, changes remain possible as many airlines are yet to finalise their winter schedules. LOT commenced operations to Ljubljana in March 2016.
News about flight suspension in the region are flooding the aviation news agencies. I really really hope that the next summer schedule would be better than this one. Miss flying :(...

DeleteYou both should check BEG and ZAG airport timetable. Of course there are cancelations but not so many of them. And they are in worse situation with "red lists" as we are.

LOT will not fly half-empty as they don't want to make loss but is that good for Slovenian economy? Those 50 passengers would bring much more to our economy than it's cumulative loss per one flight. With national carrier we would get those 50 passengers and now we don't have nothing.

DeleteThis will not last forever, we should prepare now and establish new one so when all this is over we could start operating. Otherwise we will have situation "market will take of itself" and while other airports will grow significantly, we will be happy with two flights to FRA and CDG. And when this will happen everyone will blame government why don't we subsidize other airlines.

Everyday you can hear people how much problems do they have because of lack of connectivity, congress are being canceled, hotels are half empty, how many companies which depends to aviation sector are already bankrupt. And those events happened even before Covid. Not to mention that now it's much worse.
DeleteAnother brilliant statement that tourist don't spend as much as it was injected into JP. In 2019 there was nearly 15 mio overnights in Slovenia, if you take only 10% of those and relate them to aviation sector and you would cover all the losses which JP made before 4k took it over. 5 mio per year is not much for airlines with 10+ aircrafts but I agree that it could be much better with competent managers behind the wheel.
The funniest comment: "congress are being canceled" due to the lack of connectivity. Congress are being canceled! There are no congresses on site, only online. There are practically no business meetings on site, tourist are simply don't fly like before COVID. Simple as that. Please, explain how flying empty plane will contribute to the economy.

DeleteIf airline suspends operation that does not mean planes are empty. It means that they do not reach break even, but those 50 passengers on plane (even if it 50% LF) would contribute a lot to Slovenian economy. Capiche?

I have specified that those events (canceled congresses etc) happened even before Covid so don't search for excuses. But even those congresses which are taking place (again, not every and each were canceled) we can not even apply to tenders due to lack of connectivity (explained by director of Cankarjev dom few days ago on national TV).

Instead, they troll about things they no nothing about. Perhaps they should focus more on our health system. A lot of money is being burnt and people are dying because of it. I don't think anyone ever died due to Adria's poor quality of on board service.
If there was 50 passangers on board or 50 passangers wanted to fly on the route per flight, this service would not be cannceled. In Split LF in July was 61% in Dubrovnik and Belgrade even less so actually airlines are flying with these bad loads. 50 passangers on E190 would be 50% LF which is in these times totally sustainable for service. But in Ljubljana it was probably even less. And also do not forget that LOT has even smaller planes which can make to LJU like Q400 with 76 seats, E170 and CRJ700 with 70 seats... demand for these flights was probably very low to even sustain flights on dash.
DeleteWhy would they operate if they don't get break even? They are reducing costs of course and first they will cut off routes with weakest LF/pax nr/rev nr. At the end we can see that Slovenia can not rely on foreign airlines.

DeleteBecause on the long run it might be in their interest to look reliable. So many pax are not even considering flying because there is a high chance of flight being canceled and they don't want to deal with getting their money back (because apparently not having enough staff to deal with rebookings and compensation claims is airline's money saving technique). They should at least keep 1 flight per week so pax keep booking flights.
But, hey, if foreign airlines go away, Slovenia will finally be forced to fuel some money into aviation as they do with Railways (that can also afford to sponsor a hockey team - taxpayers money, hope you watch their games) and bus companies with subventions for tickets.

And there are 103 countries on yellow list from where you don't need quarantine. In total we could get passengers from 122 countries + those who fall under exceptions even if they arrive from red list.

Yellow list: you need quarantine, unless the yellow country is in the EU and you are EU citizen.
DeleteYellow list means quarantine for everybody except SLO citizens or foreign residents in Slovenia... and only if arriving from the EU. There are a few exceptions but nothing that would fill a plane... if on a red list, there is a mandatory 14-day quarantine for everybody. The exception list is not worth mentioning.

Even red list has many restrictions. I personally know a lot of people who came from red list countries and did not get any quarantine.
DeleteAt the end almost whole EU is on green or yellow list. If that's not enough to have flights than I don't what it is.
We will need to dig deeper into the figures and check the origin of the LJU traffic. It could be mainly non-EU + UK hence having so many cancellations. For example Singaporeans, South Koreans, Indians, etc.
