They planned to start on December 18 with 4 flights per week. It's more negative than positive news, but I agree that at least it's not full suspension (for that let's wait till December 20).

I'm waiting for Fraport fanboy regarding how there is no demand but we can see that on other ex-yu airports airlines are increasing their flights (KLM to ZAG) or welcoming new airlines (7W to SKP,TGD; W6 to AUH).

well Zagreb also lost some flights, KLM is adding new flights in FEB and not at the moment, new Skopje service is planned also for next year ... meanwhile there are 6 new routes planed from Ljubljana in 2021 (old routes are also already on sale - for example Munich). so compare things in the same time frame.

EasyJet, SunExpress, Tunisair two new routes, hopefuly Windrose when restrictions are gone, Ego Airways if they launch flights. Also if Iberia and Israir maybe relaunch plans for new routes for 2022 it would be great. Plus if all other airlines return with atleast some flights and if they establish Air Slovenia it would be amazing.

Montenegro just got a new government on Friday. Let's see what they do regarding YM. I'm not too optimistic.

      @anon 16:19

Sorry, I really did not compare things in same time frame as 7W already landed in SKP and TGD, while YM in LJU is still not 100%.

Maybe because they are not in EU and dont have restrictions for 3rd countries? Check out what happened to Zagreb.

    7. Anonymous08:50

What happened? Did you see their timetable and ours? In ZAG they still have airport while in LJU we only have parking place...

As soon as they introduced same restrictions as in SLO Windrose suspended their flights to Zagreb. That happened.

Only difference is that MNE is a tourist Mecca so there are always going to be flights. Look at the LCC network.

you probably need to replace "always" for "summer"

    4. Anonymous21:52

      MNE - 2,5MIO tourists in 2019; SLO 4,7MIO in 2019.

Are you really comparing Slovenia and Montenegro in tourism? If Montenegro is tourist Mecca i wonder what is Slovenia then. Slovenia had 4.7 million and Montenegro 2,5 million tourists in 2019. I wonder if LJU would ever drop their costs, how many LCCs and other carriers would come.

And how come LJU and MBX are collapsing while TIV and TGD are thriving with multiple legacy and LCC operating a wide range of flights? I guess when it comes to Slovenia most come by car especially those that go skiing. Montenegro has tourists that come by plane. Also with all these new investments MNE has become quite a high end tourist destination.

you just answered yourself. position of the country is also important. maybe because slovenia has more central position in europe, maybe because highway road to Montenegro from idk vienna doesnt exist or it would take way too long, maybe because you need to cross several borders to get there by car etc. and dont tell me TGD is thriving at the moment I dont see many LCC flights at the moment lol so as you can see your statement of being tourist mecca is wrong.

Actually it depends what they "count" as tourist, number of foreigners entered the country? Number of check-ins at tourist office? We know that majority of tourists in MNE are staying at apartments and those "tourists" are not signed in tourist office. Anyone who has visited MNE at Summer knows that you can't compare SLO and MNE when it comes to number of tourists. Also in Slovenia people come by car, first they go to visit Bled and make a circle around lake, then they have lunch in center of LJU and in afternoon they visit Postojna cave and after that they continue with their journey mostly to Croatia.

Anon 6:28 well maybe if LJU would drop their costs, LJU would have more carriers, legacy and LCC.

    10. Anonymous09:00

if they would count number of foreigners entering the country than Slovenia would have 30MIO tourists a year probably... I am quite sure there is a standard how to count tourists. and it doesnt matter. other factors are more important here (how expensive is the airport and how reachable you are by car). simple

    11. Anonymous09:38

If we talk about attraction for LCC or other carriers then of course this is (accessibility by car, cost of APT) very important factor. I was just talking about number of tourists because I am still quite sure that MNE has a lot more tourists than SLO. If they count only those who are registered in tourist office than probably Slovenia has more, but if they would count everyone than MNE is way ahead of SLO.

    12. Anonymous09:53

MNE more tourists than SLO? Lol

      Delete
    13. Anonymous11:58

Lol? What can tourists do in Slovenia, like I said, make a circle around lake Bled, walking through old town in LJU, visit Postojna cave and maybe to get wet at our 7,6 km long coast. And now you would compare us to the country with one of the most beautiful coast among EU?
If you see number of LCC flying there you know that we can't even compare those two countries.

      Delete
    14. Anonymous12:36

And more LCC destinations means that there are more tourists?

      Delete
    15. Anonymous13:18

You do know there is more to the number of tourists than the number of people coming to dip their toes into Adriatic? Dear Lord, a way how you count tourists is standardized and it has nothing to do with crossing the national borders. It's pretty clear that the accessibility - as pointed out correctly before - of Slovenia vs Montenegro cannot be compared and airline connections gain importance if other means of access are limited or more problematic.

    16. Anonymous06:51

No one is comparing countries - just numbers. And having coastline means nothing - just check Austria - not a single meter of the coastline but they are powerhouse in tourism. Their revenue is bigger that croatian (because they have strong year around tourism). And what can tourist do in Slovenia? Ask all 4,7 mio :)
