NEWS FLASH

Qatar Airways has postponed its service resumption to Skopje by over two months. Flights from Doha were initially to be restored on March 28 but have now been delayed until June 6. The Qatari carrier suspended services to the Macedonian capital at the start of the global health emergency last March. In its final full year of operations, in 2019, a total of 29.856 passengers travelled between the two cities. Flydubai will be the only airline to maintain scheduled nonstop services between the Gulf and Macedonia at the start of the 2021 summer season. The airline plans to resume flights from its hub in Dubai to Skopje on March 29 after over a year.

      +1
      The route was decreased when it was launched from 4 to 3 weekly before Covid. No demand to and from the the Gulf.

    I think they will return really quick after the pandemic. There are currently held talks about the takeover of FK / RK Vardar by Qatari Investors who are also linked with the construction of a new cargo airport in Macedonia

      Why would macedonia need cargo airport?

      The cargo airport was cancelled last year. It was announced by the government and TAV and it was published here too.

      They dont need one. Its only a nice to have. According to me, the only acceptable location for a cargo airport would be Strumica (Border Region with Bulgaria / Greece) and not Stip.

      @Anon 11:39
      Yes you are right. But this concerns TAV - the current airport operater. What I'm talking about are the development plans from the Qatari Investment firm

    Looking very much forward to their return- having one of the best carriers in the world in terms of service and connectivity fly to SKP is a huge advantage. One can reach the farthest places on the planet with just 1 stop- it makes travelling even more fun.

    I agree with last comment. This flight is about connections to Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Competition for Turkish, which is badly needed.

      Depends how big the market is. It might not be big enough for several players. In the end it can be SKP that loses out.
