Air Serbia will begin utilising Terminal 1 at New York’s JFK Airport starting June 3, moving from Terminal 4 which it has used over the previous four years. Terminal 1 is used exclusively for international flights. Its main customers are Lufthansa, Air France, Korean Air and Japan Airlines. It is primarily utilised by SkyTeam and Star Alliance member carriers, which include the likes of Alitalia, Aeroflot, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Turkish Airlines and others. “We are proud to join the home of all main international airlines. Our passengers will be able to enjoy more space and smaller crowds, and in the near future, once the reconstruction is finished, Terminal 1 will be the most luxurious in the whole of New York and the surrounding area”, Air Serbia’s Vice President for Americas, George Petković, said. Last year, Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vučić, noted, “We are in negotiations to secure better conditions at the airport terminal in New York with a smaller fee for the airport’s use. We will get much better terms".
President is talking about airline securing better conditions on some international airport outside his country? Lol.

DeleteIt's a pity GoS will end up paying more for the more expensive terminal when they can still stick to the older one, which also suits the need of the average transfer passenger. T1 will be really expensive!

DeleteA terminal with only international airlines -which means even more inconvenience for US domestic transfers, on top of any hopes of working on a codeshare with a US carrier.

DeleteUS transfers from LH and TK are on Star Alliance partner airlines (ie United Airlines) and not on US domestic airlines, so anon 11:42 is wrong.
DeleteUnited Airlines hub in New York is not JFK but EWR, so both LH and TK push their US transfers through EWR and not through JFK, so anon 12:01 is also wrong. Indeed JFK is far from perfect for transfers.
Still JU does not have transfers on the US side (JFK is for it a dead end), so it does not matter how good JFK is for transfers.
Given that United (the Star Alliance member that LH and TK would send domestic transfers to) barely flies to JFK at all--and indeed, didn't fly there at all until November 2020--I doubt LH and TK are carrying many transfer passengers. Aeroflot and Air France probably do have a lot of transfers and they use Terminal 1.

DeleteNot true at all. Air Serbia has no US domestic transfers to Delta at current Terminal 4 at JFK. JU however already DOES have transfers (many interline US domestic destinations with B6) - check their web site; so JFK is NOT a dead end for JU.
Transfers to JetBlue are at T5 so passengers already have to change terminals from T4->T5. Air Serbia moving to T1 won't incur any additional inconvenience for transfer passengers as they will just have to do T1->T5 instead of current T4->T5.
So back where JAT had been 35 years ago on daily JFK flights in peak season
ReplyDeleteI believe JAT was out of the old PAN AM terminal 3/4. The rooftop parking was great to look at your relatives through the plane windows.

It is good enough for widebodies from Air France, Aeroflot, Alitalia, Korean, China Eastern, Saudia, Air China, EVA, Lufthansa, Turkish, Japan Airlines and many others, but is "very small" for you. How dare Air Serbia operate from a terminal with "low-class" stores like Bulgari, Cartier and oh no - Hermes!
