Iberia restores Ljubljana launch plans

NEWS FLASH

Spanish national carrier Iberia will commence seasonal flights between Madrid and Ljubljana this summer after launch plans were shelved last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Iberia asked its social media followers which destination they would most like to see featured in the airline’s network with Ljubljana coming out on top. Flights to the Slovenian capital will operate twice per week, each Monday and Friday from August 2 to August 30. Prior to the pandemic, bookings for Iberia’s planned flights between Madrid and Ljubljana were performing well, with services scheduled to run four times per week. Madrid was Ljubljana’s seventh busiest unserved route with 7.058 passengers flying between the two cities on a single itinerary based on OAG data. Further flight details for the new service can be found here.

Highly doubt it, considering that Zagreb flights are already on sale with daily flights in August. Perhaps symbolic once weekly flights for a total of 10-12 rotations to satisfy the social media users.

We are at the end of April 2021, asking social media users, starting and ending in August 2021.
Well , nothing special, so little flight, still I'm not 100% sure even this will go thru.

I hope that at one time Iberia will consider flying to Belgrade .

Qatar is the one and solely carrier from the Oneworld alliance .

It's incredible how some people are excited about 2 weekly flights scheduled to for a period of, wait for it, 28 days.

In not so distant past, we had a multitude of flights (by all means not very exciting) and people were always complaining. Go figure.

I think they going for same strategy BA did. BA flew for like a month with 2 flights p/w, and then next year they were about to add 2 more flights p/w, and about to fly more months. For 2021 season there are currently 5 flights p/w. Iberia wanted to start MAD-LJU already in 2020 for only a month with 4 p/w, and they even upgraded some A319 and A320 flights to A321. So im sure they will add more flights in 2022.

They are testing the market. Next year they will expand the schedule to 4 or 5 months, of they get some financial incentive from the state. It seems billions of state subsidies are still not enough. :-(

IAG has been expanding quite nicely in LJU. Hopefully Vueling and Aer Lingus are next.

  7. It would be interesting to negotiate with IB MAD-LJU-BCN-LJU-MAD 2x per week.
