Aegean suspends Zagreb service for 2021

NEWS FLASH

Greece’s Aegean Airlines has suspended plans to restore operations between Athens and Zagreb this year. Services were initially to restart in April but were later moved to May. Ticket sales have now been suspended for the remainder of the year. Based on Aegean’s existing schedule, which is subject to change, the carrier will only maintain flights between Athens and Dubrovnik in Croatia, after announcing the suspension of its Split service earlier this year. In addition to Aegean’s Dubrovnik flights, Croatia Airlines will also maintain services from Zagreb to the Greek capital via Dubrovnik, with its Split – Athens route suspended this year, while Volotea will run two weekly rotations from Athens to Dubrovnik starting next month.

JU is the fastest way between the two cities now and tickets are just €160. You can get from Zagreb to Athens via Belgrade in just 4.5 hours.

Interesting that Aegean on its website sells flights to ZAG on JU and not on OU which is also in Star Alliance.

Currently the fastest options is with OU. On Tuesdays and Thursdays you have flights on ZAG-DBV-ATH route so you can get there in 3.25 hours for 1.200 kuna, or on Sundays for 1700 kunas. You also have flighs via VIE with OU and Aegean but these are mostly sold in economy easy.

Honestly who is crazy enough to book on OU right now? They cut SPU-ATH even after Aegean suspended it.

OU-OS via VIE is also crazy expensive.

Athens was always a difficult market from ZAG.

Ryanair will fly to Athens .
Whenever they open a new base, Athens is one of their first new destinations !

Interesting would be if they have plans flying Banja Luka to Athens in summer .
I have the feeling these route could be a very popular one .
Maybe even more popular than from Zagreb .
