NEWS FLASH

The member states of the European Union have decided to return Serbia and Macedonia onto its list of epidemiologically safe countries, whose citizens will be allowed to travel to the EU for non-essential purposes. Ambassadors of EU member states endorsed the position that Serbia and Macedonia have a “satisfactory epidemiological situation” which enables its citizens to travel to EU states without restrictions. Although each member state decides individually on entry requirements, almost all have adopted a unified position on allowing entry to citizens and residents of “safe countries”. Apart from Serbia and Macedonia, others placed on the list today include Albania, the United States, Lebanon and Taiwan. They join Australia, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand, which were already considered safe. The move is expected to significantly aid the aviation sector in both Serbia and Macedonia. This expanded list should start to be implemented from this Friday, June 18.

Well exactly, when you look at the relative numbers in Europe, BiH has the second lowest number of people vaccinated in Europe.

I do not see this correlation, because on entry to the EU you still need to present proof of vaccination or negative test. In your logic not too many people from BiH would be able to present proof of vaccination and that is it. Why then deny non-essential travel to the EU to those few from BiH that actually did vaccinate or can present negative test?

Number of cases in BiH 10 per 1 mln, Montenegro 31 per 1 mln, Serbia 22 per 1 mln.

What does this mean in practice? Will we still need PCR tests or be vaccinated to enter EU countries?

    1. Anonymous16:19

In practice it will mean you can enter with a negative PCR for non vaccinated and without restrictions for vaccinated (but countries will decide of they will accept EMA vaccine list or WHO vaccine list or their own).

      From another source:

This is fake news. No country is exempt from vaccination/PCR requirements for entry into the EU.

The change is that the general entry ban of RS/MK passport holders is lifted from tomorrow. From tomorrow, the same entry rules which are in force for the respective EU citizen / EU citizens will be applied to RS/MK passport holders without discrimination.

If a EU citizen can enter a EU country without any conditions, a Serb/Macedon can now do the same. If there are conditions, a Serb/Macedon has to fulfil the same conditions like the respective EU citizen.

Example Serbia-Germany: Since Serbia is not a risk country anymore, following rules apply: When entering by land transport (car/bus), no conditions at all, no test, no vaccine, no quarantine - for German, EU and RS/MK citizens the same rules. When entering by air: Before boarding, a negative test or a full EMA-approved vaccination series older than 14 days has to be presented at check in - same rules for Germans, EU-citizens and RS/MK citizens.

Rules depend on every single EU country and sometimes even on air/land transport - but there will be the very same rules enforced without discrimination from tomorrow.

It is more complex. On Friday the decision informally agreed by the EU on Wednesday is to be adopted formally. But still it is only a recommendation by the EU for member states and they need some time to introduce it to their legislation. Better check before departure.
