NEWS FLASH

Five airlines have applied for subsidies for the upkeep of flights to Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport between October 1, 2020 and May 31, 2021 in the second round of a call designed to improve Slovenia’s air connectivity. A total of 764.640 euros will be shared among the selected airlines. It has not yet been revealed which carriers have applied and how much in funds each will receive, but the set criteria includes the number of operated flights and passengers carried in the previous period. Eight airlines - Turkish Airlines, Swiss, Air Serbia, Montenegro Airlines, Lufthansa, Air France, Wizz Air and LOT - received almost one million euros in state subsidies in November last year, despite some not meeting the set requirements, while easyJet was disqualified. One more public call for the distribution of funds is planned by the end of the year.

Why do you think funds were given to Swiss even though they did not meet all of the requirements?
