NEWS FLASH

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport has begun work on the partial overhaul of its old terminal building. The facility will be reorganised and linked to the new terminal, which was put into operation this July. The airport has previously said it plans for the old terminal to be primarily used by low cost carriers and charter airlines once work on its reconstruction is completed.

LJU will reposition itself in ...few decades you meant? With those wiseheads at Fraport even that is a bit optimistic

Makes absolutely sense, glad they are doing it. So LJU will be even more ready for the future.

If LJU sees their future with OU, there is no future for LJU.

I don't know, guys. I think it's good news (for the general public) that they are investing (their private money).

I agree it is nice that they are investing. But the question is who will pay for this?

Last year management did state that Fraport Slovenia did take on bridge loan to found their monthly expenses. After this they requested 5 mil stimulation from the government to stay afloat. It is interesting that they did this instead of getting funds from Fraport groupe.

Airport is still being financed by the Slovenians government?

If it would be a long term lease to Fraport it would make sense. But because the airport is owned by Fraport groupe and Fraport group is owned by German government it forms a question.

Why is Slovenians government financing German governments firms ?

Because they literally shut them down for a few months, and grounded all civil aviation, which didn't happen anywhere else. 5 mio was therefore just a partial compensation for that time, but the actual loss was much higher.

The simple truth is that two "catastrophic" scenarios happened very close together - bankruptcy of Adria and COVID. Ryanair opening a base in Zagreb was another blow. Some people are now understandable angry at everyone involved and are making sure that they post as many negative comments under every Ljubljana article as possible. But if we are being realistic - we can't change the past. In medium to long term Ljubljana will recover, with national carrier or without. And despite what some people think, opening a new terminal in 2021 was an incredible achievement. I wish them all the best!

True. But not both of scenarios were unpredictable. Everyone in 2019 knew Adria will go bust and noone pulled the strings. As a frequent flyer I am angry, very angry, but not at everyone, but at those who are responsable for this dire situation: management of the airport, the gov and both ministres (of infrastructure and of Economic Development and Technology). And noone is making me post anything. no conspiracy here.
