NEWS FLASH
Pristina-based MyWings Airline plans to commence a new three weekly service between Pristina and Zagreb this coming winter season. Flights are expected to commence in November and will be maintained by the carrier’s Airbus A319 aircraft, which is wet-leased from Croatia’s Trade Air. Flights between the two cities were last maintained by Croatia Airlines, which discontinued the service in 2017. In the pre-pandemic 2019, a total of 4.663 passengers flew indirectly between the two cities.
1. plane is too big
ReplyDelete2. demand is not high
3. it's winter season
4. it's winter season in covid era
What could go wrong?
Winter season+covid can be an advantage also, are there many direct operators on the route? Today reality is much better to fly directly without connecting flights.
DeleteWe have people from Kosovo who work here. And their numbers arent low. And despite it is expensive to go between these two cities still 5000 people are traveling by plane.
Deletemost of them still prefer travelling by car for several reasons.
DeleteWonder if they would opt to serve Zagreb from Kukes instead. This way, they would serve Zagreb from two countries Alb/KS.
ReplyDeleteJust a thought for discussion....
absolutely not, even Zurich service failed from Kukes. And Ohrid has much more potential for anyone wanting to serve that area via a secondary airport. At least until Valona airport is up and running.
DeleteDid the service to Zurich fail from Kukes?
DeleteI'd have thought that it would thrive as airport since they presumably have lower airport charges, good road connection, interesting geographical position....
Maybe it needs more time...
From what I read both IST and ZRH flights underpeformed, I think one of the two was even terminated.
DeleteAirport is located in a sparsely populated area, road network is not the best and the airport lacks proper landing lights meaning traffic is restricted or completely suspended when there is bad weather, fog included.
From what i know Air Albania is being used to keep the airport alive until they could attract an airline that actually wants to operate there. They were negotiating with Wizz, but nothing so far. Winter operations would be a nightmare as the air navigational infrastructure is minimal.
DeleteI don´t know how populated that area is now, and how the proximity of PRN(I guess now with thenew expressway it takes one hour drive from Prizren and the counyy) affects this line. I find it very interesting that the landing occurs entering Metohija from Has region Albania and following Krusha and Drim at Nashec, where I used to fish a lot, it would have been an amazing sight to see.
DeleteThis is ridiculous...!
ReplyDeleteWhy? Trade Air is a privately-owned company that has been expanding in the past years. The expansion must have been based on good management that now sees business interes in this route. May I bother you with a kind request to offer som. E reasoning for your claim?
DeleteI know this sounds crazy, but it could actually work well. The reason is not because there are so many passengers between Zagreb and Pristina, but because of transfer pax from other countries. All those people who work in western Europe just love to travel back home by plane. Even when it's above their standard of life. Classic Balkan mentality.
ReplyDeleteMyWings is not an airline, they dont have AOC nor plane. Trade Air is the airline and they will fly on this route for MyWings which is just tour operator!
ReplyDeleteSo why is everyone so triggered about this?
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone is triggered, it's an odd route combination especially since it was previously terminated by OU. I know OU is not the best example out there but they did keep several regional destination that made money for them.
DeleteMaybe OU prices for PRN-ZAG were a too expensive as they were more focused on transfers? This route will be 100% O&D, with the right prices more people will choose to fly and the market might be larger than what OU showed us.
DeleteFor how long did OU operate ZAG-PRN and were there flights during Yugo times?
ReplyDeleteWill Trade Air ever become an airline that is going to be based in Zagreb and operate flights to and from Zagreb only, not this aircraft leasing.
