PHOTOS: Belgrade Airport construction update

NEWS FLASH

Work on the expansion and modernisation of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is ongoing. The first phase of the extension of the C Pier of the terminal building, which began in 2020 and is to be completed by the end of the year, is in full swing. Jet bridges have now been installed on all eight new additional gates. The building also features five bus gates, which have all been completed. In addition, the extension of the C apron and F taxiway are ongoing. Seven new aircraft stands are planned for narrow-body aircraft, with the option to use two stands for one wide-body aircraft, which will improve airport capacity and provide a connection to the new de-icing platform. Work has also begun on the existing C Pier, with gates C1 and C2 now closed for reconstruction. An additional floor will be built above them, which will ultimately separate arriving and departing passengers once it is fully completed above all 24 gates.

The renovation of the A Pier gates is nearing completion with gates A1 and A2 now in use, while A3 and A4 are expected to be completed soon. The departure gates have now received a refreshed look, with the bulk of the heavy work taking place above the stands where a new floor has been built.

Extensive work on the reconstruction of Terminal 2 and the construction of a central processor is now taking place. The project is being implemented in phases, which is set to completely change the appearance and customer experience at Nikola Tesla Airport. The first phase of the work is being performed on the ground floor, near the check-in counters, as well as on the first floor, prior to the passport control area. The construction of the central processor will allow for additional check-in counters, more commercial premises as well as centralised security screening that will then be performed at one point, rather than the gates, so as to provide added comfort and more efficient passenger flow, in compliance with global standards. Simultaneously, in order to allow the terminal to be expanded, the full reconfiguration of the access plateau is taking place. This project will allow faster access and more efficient traffic flow, as well as increased short-term parking capacity. A new modern car park for visitors, with a capacity for 715 vehicles, is to be built and will include premium parking spaces, parking positions for those with reduced mobility, as well as electric car chargers.

Wow so another seven remote stands will be added!? That's fantastic. BEG will then have close to 20 remote stands. Also I am so happy they put glass airbridges.

Does anyone know why the central securty control was removed from the second floor in the first place?

I remember in my first years of flying that securty was in front of the passport control and that was it, no additional checks at the gates.

BEG has had additional security checks at the gates for at least 20 years.

I don't remember those 7 remote parkings mentioned before. Are they added later on?

I thought they announced way back when this started that the C gates would be completed in October. With all the extra room from low passenger numbers I would have expected it to be completed earlier, not 3 months later.

Is there anyone now, sane enough, suggesting 'Tesla' Airport should have remained state owned and would have seen this huge investment during the C19 period?

Belgrade airport was and still is government owned.

Vinci already started with the renovations before Covid started.

I'm quite sure the government airport authority would not be capable of doing all of these renovations and new consturtion and services.

Bar should be raised for the aesthetics of the final, permanent terminal design. Temporary Tesla Square look should not be carried over to the permanent design. Kapital restaurant is a hodgepodge of colors and styles. Tesla Square illuminated sign has the aesthetics of provincial car repair shop sign. Sitting arrangements are a joke. Now is the time to up the criteria for the final look.

  7. Somewhat off topic, but now that VINCI is charge can they not create a normal, and safe environment for taxi service? Right now it is still very 'wild'. Seems like the strongest illegal taxi driver gets the passenger, and rips them off. And these drivers look like the dangerous football hooligans. Very bad first impression for foreigners, as well as regular travelers.

Can they not create a normal taxi stand queue with authorized taxi companies that is constantly patrolled by Police, Communal Police, and Airport Security?

This is a big problem that needs to be dealt with urgently.

You mean just like on every airport ever? You can't get rid of taxis, as a lot of people still prefer them to public transport.

    2. Every other airport ever should have a regulated taxi stand, with Airport Staff there to guide people to the correct (licensed) taxi.

I didn't say anything about getting rid of taxis at all. They should organize it better. Not allow illegal taxis.

    3. +1000 The taxi at Arrivals is worst I’ve ever experienced in Europe. They systematically want to charge you double price. Scammers and liars only there. I take my taxi at Departures now. No problems at all.

      @Anonymous19:13

No, not sure any other airport has such unregulated taxi operation. Unless in some 3rd world country you're referring to. I flew to Zagreb, Ljubljana, Dubrovnik, Vienna, Rome, Milan, Venezia, Paris, Heathrow, Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt…, in all my travels and using local airports I've never seen taxi like Wild West operations as described by Charlie, of course I wouldn’t use one of these, I’d use uber or lift service if available or just take local public transport service.

I really don't know why they can't organize proper taxi service at BEG.

I wonder what they will do with so many extra remote stands. General aviation will move towards Ledine so it's not for them. I guess all LCCs will have to migrate there.

Crazy to think that we are in October already and there is no mention of when they might open it. First they said September and now they are speaking of the end of the year. Watch them open it in February/March.

Please construct the metro or train service and link it to the downtown area. A shame a city with 1.6 million not yet having such an important service. Hopefully, Vinci read this.

Hang in there, Vinci plans to upgrade the whole Belgrade public transport network and ''construct'' the metro. It's a shame that in Budapest of 3,2 milion, Ferihegy does not have such an important service too. But they don't.
