Work on the expansion and modernisation of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is ongoing. The bulk of the work is now cantered on the construction of a central processor, which encompasses both the expansion of the C concourse, as well as the check-in area and passport control at Terminal Two. The project is being implemented in phases, which is set to completely change the appearance and customer experience at Nikola Tesla Airport. The construction of the central processor will allow for additional check-in counters, more commercial premises as well as centralised security screening that will then be performed at one location, rather than the gates, so as to provide added comfort and more efficient passenger flow, in compliance with global standards. Simultaneously, in order to allow the terminal to be expanded, the full reconfiguration of the access plateau is taking place. This project will allow faster access and more efficient traffic flow, as well as increased short-term parking capacity. A new modern car park for visitors, with a capacity for 715 vehicles, is to be built and will include premium parking spaces, parking positions for those with reduced mobility, as well as electric car chargers.
Work has also begun on the existing C Pier, with gates C1 and C2 now closed for reconstruction. An additional floor will be built above them, which will ultimately separate arriving and departing passengers once it is fully completed above all 24 gates.
The renovation of the A Pier gates is continuing, with gates A1 – A4 now in use, while work on A5 has begun. The departure gates have now received a refreshed look, with the majority of the heavy work taking place above the stands where a new floor is being built.
The construction of the new 75-metre control tower at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is progressing on schedule with work set to be completed by the end of this quarter. The new facility, which also includes a two-level flight control centre at its base, will become operational during the first half of 2022, once all the latest equipment fitted inside the facility is tested. The facility stretches over an area of 7.500 square metres and has a control tower cab of 120 square metres. The existing control tower at Belgrade Airport has been in use since 1962. It will be closed upon the completion of the new facility, however, it will be up to operator SMATSA (Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services Agency) to decide on its fate.
Several other projects are also underway, including the construction of the inserted runway and de-icing platform. So far, the new E platform has been completed and is already being used by commercial aircraft for parking, as well as the solar energy farm, waste treatment plant and long-stay car park. The solar power farm will allow for the airport to switch to less polluting energy sources by next winter.

When will C1 C2 gates reopen? It took about 11 months for A1 to A4 gates to be completed.

DeleteWell, nice to see progress, but I can't understand why it was necessary to use land for solar panels and parkplace is without shade? Thay f*up healthy land for agriculture, and made huge parking area without any tree. Can you imagine what it will looks like in July?
ReplyDeleteIt will be cheaper parking, without additional advantages. More expensive parking will be located close to terminal building.

DeleteIf the goal was to offer cheaper parking without advantages they should have done what private parking lots in the area did: cheaper parking rates and no advantage of paved surfaces and green spots for EVs.
They used very bad pannels for construction of building with very bad quality, too much money for very bad quality

DeleteThe C gate work was supposed to be completed by now, with lower passenger numbers this should have been completed easily.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the previous comment about the new parking lot; why didn't they put the solar panels above to create shade?? That would have used less agricultural space AND put some shade for the cars. It can get to +40c in the summer.
While I love the idea of expansion, it looks like Vinci are starting to make some major mistakes.

The second option would be to open the first phase of the terminal extension (Pier C and Pier A) at once at the end of March 2022 depending on phasing to accommodate airport operations in the coming months".
Pictures show early excavation work for foundations at the C1-C2 area. Hope all of C1-C6 gate construction and renovation can be completed before the end of March for that plan to be achievable.

DeleteAnon 14:45 "C concourse expansion has been completed". No one mentioned C concourse expansion. Work being done on C1 to C6 was mentioned. Those are existing gates that have to be renovated similar to what was done at A1-A4 gates over the past 12 months, including construction of an external structure that will allow arriving passengers to reach the top level where additional floor will be built, similar to what was created above A1-A4 gates. Those structures that will be built in the C1-C6 area are also clearly visible in renders that Vinci released. Now you know.
