British Airways to temporarily suspend Zagreb service

NEWS FLASH

British Airways will temporarily suspended flights between London Heathrow and Zagreb for a second time this winter season. The carrier, which will resume operations between the two cities this afternoon after an almost month-long hiatus throughout November, will maintain services until January 10, after which flights will be suspended until at least February 1. Frequencies during the operational period will vary between two and four times per week. The British carrier competes directly against Croatia Airlines on the route, which is maintaining four weekly rotations between the two capital cities. In addition, Ryanair operates daily flights between Zagreb and Stansted Airport.

With FR offering dirt cheap fares I don't think BA will return before summer. Especially not with COVID still going strong in Croatia.

FR wants to destroy competition. Same is happening in VIE against Austrian Airlines.

They are becoming successful in VIE. EW announced the removal of three planes and they are firing 50% of their staff there.

do you really think people flying British fly FR?

What choice did they have before FR? Only alternative was OU with fewer frequencies. So many chose BA. Now that FR is here and offering cheap flights BA experienced a drop in bookings. I am more impressed about OU being untouched by FR on this route. Congrats to them.

    5. I flew both BA and OU and now FR.

    6. I think BA relies mostly on transfer passengers, especially from North America. Due to Covid and low-demand during winter months, this is not unusual. My cousin flew AA/BA this summer on her way from the US and she said they were great. However, on her way back, she flew on Iberia from ZAG via MAD to JFK and she said it was terrible. The service was practically non-existent and the crew kept talking in Spanish only.

Dunno about your cousin, but IB has improved quite a lot as an airline especially since it is part of IAG. Not to mention their fleet modernisation. And yes, Spanish is quite a popular language worldwide, where is the surprise in that? British and Iberia have a very good partnership similar to the AF/KL one. BA profit a lot from the Latin American market where IB is the master.

Sorry to interrupt your lovely expectations but British returned few days ago to ZAG following a month of suspension and carries triple digit pax on the route, despite being in winter and FR's daily STN flights and OU's LHR flights.

    Everybody is 'temporarily' suspending Zagreb.

KLM is also reducing ZAG from 14 to 10 weekly in January. Difficult month for many around the world.

Did you post a flash about Fly Dubai increasing ZAG?

    1. Yes, on September 24. The increase was scheduled in December from the very beginning of their return to Zagreb.
