The construction of Niš Constantine the Great’s new terminal building is advancing. The new 7.160-square-metre facility will boast ten check-in desks, self-check-in stations, eight passport control booths, four passenger gates and one VIP gate. Furthermore, it will feature one air bridge and a luggage sorting facility. New food and beverage outlets, as well as duty free shops, will also be added. The project, scheduled for completion by 2024, will increase the airport’s annual capacity to 1.5 million passengers and will enable it to simultaneously handle six aircraft. The development is valued at eleven million euros. In addition, work on the construction of a new control tower is scheduled to begin in November. During May, Niš Airport handled 34.440 passengers, representing an increase of 11% on the pre-pandemic 2019. During the January - May period, the airport welcomed 119.280 travellers through its doors, which is still down 12.2% on 2019.

DeleteRomania has many fantastic ski resorts in the Carpathian mountains, I doubt they would bother to fly to INI & then take a 2 hours bus on dodgy roads to Kop. UK tourists may be an option.

DeleteThose Kopaonik charters should be Kraljevo-bound; if ATR doesn't suit charter fligjts, they should be operated as regular seasonal. Tarom could do it, as wel as Air S.

ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, the contract with Vinci in BEG stipulated that the other airports in Serbia will not exceed 1 million passengers annually but I forget how long that was supposed to be in place. Part of the interest in the government in developing both INI and KVO is because they are both owned by the State, while BEG profits now go to Vinci.
ReplyDeleteIf the government didn't take over the airport there is no WAY that the previous owners would have been able to make such an investment.
I hope they build a nice VIP lounge in INI.
If I remember correctly, such a restrictions is set for the first 7 years, unless BEG exceed some level of double-digit pax numbers (cannot remember exact number) earlier on.

Actually INI is allowed to exceed that numbers only if it doesn't affect BEG. Since BEG is growing solidly there is no need to worry.

ReplyDeleteIt will be a part of the new expanded terminal. They will refurbish It and make some changes/reconstructions.
DeleteSo will they also expand the platform for parking positions and will they build the taxiway to the other side of the runway??

ReplyDeleteI was there a few days ago and spoke with an airport employee. He told me that they will build only on one side of the terminal instead of both sides as previously announced. Can anyone confirm this information?
