NEWS FLASH
Sarajevo Airport has continued to post record results by registering its busiest June ever. During the month, it welcomed 154.887 travellers through its doors, representing an increase of 29.9% on the pre-pandemic 2019. “Our aim was for all airlines that flew to Sarajevo before the pandemic to return and to establish new routes and destinations in line with passenger demand. Airlines have been offered certain incentives. As a result, in cooperation with USAID, flights from Warsaw were launched by LOT Polish Airlines, we have also seen Wizz Air open its base in Sarajevo, the introduction of nonstop flights to Hurghada by Air Cairo and a significant number of airlines flying from the Middle East”, the airport said. During the first half of the year, Sarajevo Airport handled 559.455 passengers, up 22.2% on the pre-Covid 2019.

DeleteWhat does it mean? There were 46% more flights in May 2022. compare to May 2021. At the same time, passenger traffic is higher more than three times. DeleteBecause both Easters fell this May. In 2019 it was in April.
DeleteVery interesting developments for SJJ. Wish them all the best of luck as their management literally went from zero to hero. Though there is still a lot of work to be done, the achievements so far have been awesome. Already half a million passengers and the summer has just started!
ReplyDeleteSJJ is still far away from being connected to major cities in the West. When flying from the US and Canada, the Star Alliance airlines (mainly LH and OU) are the only choices to connect. SJJ should work with Air France, KLM, British Airways, SAS to establish those connections.

Deletethey really need Skyteam to step in as currently they have no presence, it's all down to Star alliance (LH group + Turkish and now LOT) with Qatar's insignificant representation of Oneworld. I don't count low cost, but the overall improvement is visible and hopefully other legacy carriers will follow as they see SJJ potential.
